Disclaimer:I don't own either NCIS franchise, G Callen, Abby Scuito or any other NCIS character appearing here. I am borrowing them for a little while, kind of like my own personal barbie/ken dolls.
Author's Note: I have been dying to write a G and Abby fanfiction for some time, but my muse hasn't been cooperating. So, this isn't really my best work.

He was getting nowhere, he thought with a grim frown as he trailed behind Abby Scuito.

He'd been in DC all of 48 hours, awake for nearly all of them, and Callen thought that this might possibly be the most times he'd ever struck out within a 48 hour period. And with that particular thought came a twinge of guilt. Admittedly, his mind shouldn't be focused on the number times he'd gotten shot down, but instead it should be focused on the cross-jurisdictional, all-hands-on-deck case that he was working. After all, it was why he was in DC to begin with, and it was the reason that he was walking down the street behind Abby. Usually, she stayed in the lab while the team brought the evidence back for her to process, but this time, Gibbs had requested her presence in the field.

This particular case had been particularly difficult to investigate. The first victim had been discovered 72 hours ago. Callen was called in (since the profile fit a case he had been working in LA), and he landed in DC almost exactly 48 hours ago. Now the team was processing the crime scene where the body of a second victim was found, and to complicate matters, the crime scene just happened to be a side street off one of the main thoroughfares in DC. The street was teeming cops, NCIS agents and civilians.

A scream erupted from somewhere down the street followed by the unmistakable sound of gunfire. Without a second thought, Callen pushed Abby to ground covering her with his body and scanning the street any sign of the threat. From his vantage point, he could see the gunman being handcuffed. He breathed a sigh of relief turning his attention to the woman beneath him.

"Wow, G Callen." She smiled. "You sure know how to sweep a girl off her feet."

He smirked. "Well, I had to do something to get your attention. Obviously just asking you out wasn't working."

She tilted her head to the side and narrowed her eyes at Callen. "Awwww...you hired someone to shoot up the street just so you could sweep me off my feet - how sweet!"

"So...how about going out to dinner with me, Abby Scuito?" When it looked like she was getting ready to shoot him down, he spoke, "I figure it's the least you could do, after all, I did just save your life."

"If I say yes, will you get off me? Because no offense, but you make it kind of difficult to breathe."

"You drive a hard bargain." He laid a quick kiss on forehead before pushing himself up and holding out a hand to help her up. "I'll pick you up at 7."

She finished dusting herself off, grabbed her case and took off leaving Callen behind. "Fine," she called out over her shoulder.

Smirking, he called out, "And you're welcome for me saving your life."
