I growled in annoyance as the tail of sun colored fur brushed across the underside of my nose, creating another sneeze to erupt, violently shattering the dark silence. The young boy on my lap merely let out a yawn before flipping onto his side, falling back to sleep.
I glared at my brother, who was sleeping peacefully, while I, the cool older brother, suffered a slumber less sleep due to my siblings annoying extra appendage.
I snapped at the object moving teasingly in front of my face, and it flinched away at the last second before whacking me right between the eyes. I lashed out again, earning a mouthful of fluff and flesh, Zidane grumbling in discomfort. The twitching appendage whipped around wildly, trying to escape, and I only bit down harder, causing the boy to whine.
After giving him what I considered a warning nibble, I let go, the mangled tail swishing well out of my reach.
I sighed, finally believing I would get a good night's sleep. With gentle hands I lifted Zidane slightly in order to shift to a more comfortable position before placing him back down as he snuggled up against my chest, his soft, untangled hair ticklish against my bare skin.
I settled in the crook of the tree, drifting off; the sounds of the forest an unknown lullaby to my experienced ears.
Falling asleep….
*SLAP!*
Stupid tail!
I whacked my brother upside the head and he immediately woke up, sky blue eyes whipping around wildly. His gaze settled on me and he sighed in relief, calming down.
"Something wrong, Kuja?" he asked innocently, and I shot him a harsh glare; if looks could kill, the master thief would have scattered in the wind as ashes. He flinched slightly, looking at me with wide, innocent eyes.
My cold demeanor shattered under the gaze of his eyes, and I growled in irritation.
"You better find a way to calm that tail of yours, or I will tie it in a knot, understand?" He switched his attention to his tail, the appendage flicking lazily from side to side. He nodded his head vigorously as he laid back down, his back facing away from me, the tail too far to grab.
I watched in silence, his breathing evening out as he fell back asleep. The soothing sound lulled my to sleep, and under the bright full moon, two brothers fell asleep peacefully.
Well, for the youngest that is.
*Whap*
"ZIIIDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN NNNNEEEE!"
