Winry's Scales

The boys were home again.

In their real home- her house.

Al has his body back, and he's grown cuter over the years, she can see that. His warm brown eyes and his dirty-blonde hair, neatly trimmed back, is what any sane female teenager her age would call attractive. There was no denying that Alphonse was good-looking. His height, standing about head taller than Edward, also made him more appealing.

Ed has his right arm back, and he's as arrogant as ever. Still short, too, barely taller than Winry herself. Years spent running around the country and practicing- and often participating in- combat, formed his body well. Working on his prosthetic limbs, she had been able to see his well-cut body. He was still an idiot, though- never called, never wrote and certainly never sent her any presents.

It was hard to believe these two were brothers, not just from appearances, anyway.

With the pair of them standing there, in front of the light-blobde woman, both of them holding out a piece of jewelry, one that would change her life forever, Winry knew that it was time to make the biggest decision of her life.

On one hand, Alphonse. Kind, sweet, caring, attractive, and one of her best friends since birth.

On the other hand was Edward. Rude, annoying, arrogant, handsome, yet infuriating, and her other best friend since birth.

She hesitated for a moment, studying the two rings before her. One was a dainty, silver affair, with an emerald gem set in the centre, protruding from the ring. Diamond edging surrounded the cut stone. The other was a simple, gold band, with a small sapphire in the middle. She stared at the two brothers respectively, past the silver to gaze at Alphonse, before flicking her gaze sideways to stare at Edward.

A small sweat broke out on her forehead. No matter which one she chose, she would still be Mrs. Elric. And the one she didn't choose would be her brother-in-law…

The boys stared at her expectantly, each waiting to hear her reply.

Forgetting her rational thoughts, she closed her eyes and breathed deeply. The answer was there within a split second, and, opening her eyes, she reached for the ring that she wanted.

A quiet, simple wedding had occurred. Of course, nothing was ever simple about a wedding, especially since so many people wanted to come and see the union of Ms. Rockbell and Mr. Elric.

Winry had been a stunning bride- naturally. Causing every mans' jaw to drop to the floor- particularly the best mans'- she had floated down the aisle, before finally becoming an Elric.

She stood now with her husband, near the lake where they had played as children. A feast had been set out for the pair of them on a picnic rug beneath a large oak tree. The sun caught the light of her hair, and each of her pieces of jewelry shone in the brightness.

Her husband stood beside her, his hand wrapped around hers, showing off the ring around her finger. The sun reflected on the little piece of gold jewelry, causing it to glint in the sunset.

She had always liked automail better, anyway.
