Far over the sandy dunes of home,
And on my way to parts unknown.
I must not grieve, I have to leave;
And trek what's there for me to roam.
The Empire's evil reached my door,
The Force's call I can't ignore,
With Ben I head to Alderaan,
Helped by Chewie and by Han.
One big disturbance shakes my core:
Two billion people are no more;
Where once a planet used to hang,
I see just debris with a pang.
A station was it not a moon,
For fighting back there was no room.
My gut insists there's woe ahead,
What is to come I really dread.
Far over bodies shot with guns
A rescue planned by me and Han,
We charge in fast, stormtroopers blast!
And see the princess hair in buns!
A garbage masher seems to her,
A brilliant other to the door
With grate shot out, she gives a pout,
And we dive headlong in its maw!
The imps decide to close us in,
Han says "it's nothing" with a grin,
We aren't prepared and really scared,
"Cee-threepio will you come in!"
The droids come through for all of us,
The masher stops without a fuss;
The door gives way, we've saved the day!
Back to the ship we walk in class.
When Ben Kenobi buys the farm,
I feel the world is cruel and dumb,
I hear a voice yell: "Run Luke, run!"
We flee the bay, but we aren't done!
Escaping imps and blasting TIES,
The threats that roam Galactic skies,
Are many and are tough to beat,
To Yavin Four we must retreat!
Far over planets, moons and suns,
Through hyperspace the Falcon runs,
Traversing parsecs and light years,
And taking routes that no-one dares.
On X-Wing fighters into space,
We shot of in a mighty race,
Against all odds words of doom,
To save our friends and cause a boom!
The trench was like the Beggar's Rift,
With scant few meters left to drift.
Darth Vader's fighter in pursuit,
None of our men had time to shoot.
With thirty seconds of safe time,
I put in action plan of mine,
To charge ahead, with speed at max,
While Biggs and Wedge cover'd our backs.
Red Two pulled out, Red Three blew up,
I heard Ben's voice cry: "Hurry Up!"
Han shot the fighters off my rear,
The exhaust port drew ever near.
The moment came. The Missiles flew.
And with a bang the Death Star blew!
The three of us, Han, me and Wedge,
Returned to base, still quite edge.
Far over causeway paved with stone,
The music rang, and medals shone.
We were the heroes of the day,
And Han, in fact, he chose to stay.
This, of course, is longer than the original, but I wanted to get the story across in it's entirety.
I had a moment of thought: "What if I do a second part, about Hoth?" and even contemplated writing it out before posting the above, but I thought that it wiould be a little bit too much.
Oh, I got a chance to watch the first of "The Hobbit" films, and trust me, they are terrible. At least to those of us who have read Tolkien's original work. For one thing, Radagust the Brown was not named so for being covered in ... well, the rating of this story won't let me say that word. Also, they totally butchered the original poetry. :-(.
In any case, I hope that you have enjoyed this little poem, and May the Fiction Be With You
