For the first time in a year, Catherine Willows was bored at work.
As she sat at the table, she absently flipped through a book Grissom had left behind, while Nick and Warrick tossed a ball back and forth.
She was about ready to just go home and spend the day in bed when the door was flung open. Her mouth dropped in surprise when Sara hobbled through the door on crutches, followed by a grinning Greg. She immediately got to her feet, along with Warrick and Nick.
"Sara, what happened?"
"Why are you on crutches?"
"Are you okay?"
The bombardment of questions overwhelmed Sara, and she shook her head as she hobbled over to a chair, then with the help of Greg, carefully sat down. "I'm fine, guys," she insisted, propping her crutches up against the table.
"She has a broken leg," Greg explained, and Warrick gave him a look.
"Well, that much is obvious."
Sara settled back in the chair, shaking her head.
"How did you get it?" Nick asked, kneeling in front of her.
She shrugged. "I fell." And it was true... in a way.
"Are you hurting?"
She shook her head. "I just took my pain killers."
He nodded, and then a bright smile lit up his face as he reached into his pocket and produced a permanent marker.
"Nick, no..."
He gave her a pleading look. "Please, Sara?"
She couldn't say no to that face, so finally she nodded. "Okay, fine."
"I'm next," Warrick stated, and Greg gave him a look.
"Hey, I helped her in here! I'm next!"
"Wrong." Catherine stepped between them. "I'm next."
Sara laughed and leaned back in the chair. "There's plenty of room, and I can't get up. All of you can sign," she promised.
Five minutes later, her entire cast was covered with signatures, and Sara couldn't help but laugh. "Thanks, everyone."
The door opened, and Grissom poked his head inside. "Catherine, I need you and Greg to work an arson case." He looked at Nick and Warrick. "And I need you two to work a robbery with a DB." He gave them the addresses, then shooed them out the door.
Sara watched with interest, and when Grissom turned back to her, she smiled charmingly. "And where am I going?"
He raised an eyebrow. "That's funny, Sidle."
She frowned. "What do you mean, funny? I'm bored!"
He crossed his arms. "Then you should have stayed home, like the doctor said, and you wouldn't be bored."
She pretended to look hurt. "But I would have been lonely."
He chuckled and moved over to her, laying a gentle kiss on the top of her head. "Well, you're going to have to be lonely or bored."
She grabbed his shirt. "Fun."
He laughed and kissed her again, then headed out of the room, leaving Sara alone.
She sighed and let her head fall back against the chair. Why did she have to be either? It had, after all, been his fault that her leg was broken in the first place.
She snickered to herself.
Next time she'd have to remember that two people in a wet shower stall wasn't exactly safe.
The End!
