Edward's song

I shifted slightly from Edward as we discussed this particular subject - my voice.

"Please Bella, I know you have a beautiful singing voice, everyone has told me so. And I am the only one who hasn't heard it." He mocked sadness in his voice, but still it hurt me - although I would never admit this to him.

"Alright, fine but you have to promise you won't laugh." I agreed as I walked across the room to collect my guitar. I turned to him realising his face was very serious. Edward very rarely promised me unnecessary things, but I could see from the look in his eyes he would keep his laughter under control.

I sat on the bed with my left leg folded under my right thigh resting my guitar on my lap. I was angled towards Edward to save the time of him insisting he sees my facial expressions as I sing. As my fingers strummed the guitar I realised it was much easier to remember than I had thought. I hadn't played it in a while but I regularly pick it up to tune it. Something Renée had convinced me to do as a child (to prevent the guitar forgetting it's name).

I stared at the strings on my guitar, pretending that I needed to, when truthfully I just couldn't contain my embarrassment. I decided to risk a glance at Edward, but he wasn't looking at the instrument, he was looking directly at me. I felt the blood rush to my cheeks and quickly looked down. Edward sat very close to me now. I realised every time I had seen him move slightly from the corner of my eye, he had been moving closer to me. I felt the cool feeling of his finger under my chin as he raised my gaze to meet his.

His face was now inches from mine as I began to sing his song.

"Look at the stars, look how they shine for you,

and everything you do,

yeah they were all yellow,

I came along, I wrote a song for you,

And all the things you do,

And it was called yellow,

So then I took my turn,

Oh what a thing to have done,

And it was all yellow.

Your skin, oh yeah your skin and bones,

Turn in, to something beautiful,

And you know, you know I love you so, you know I love you so.

I swam across; I jumped across for you,

Oh what a thing to do,

'Cause they were all yellow,

I drew a line, I drew a line for you,

Oh what a thing to do,

And it was all yellow.

Your skin, oh yeah your skin and bones,

Turn in, to something beautiful,

And you know, for you I'd bleed myself dry, for you I'd bleed myself dry."

Edward and I both smiled at that line but his eyes were still fierce. He pressed his finger to my lips before I could explain about the line and lowered it just before I was to continue with his song.

"It's true, look how they shine for you, look how they shine for you, look how they shine.

Look at the stars, look how they shine for you,

And all the things that you do."

I closed my eyes for a moment and then opened them to look at him. Edward smiled and looked completely content. He raised both his hands to hold my face softly between them. He stroked my cheek with his thumb. Gently he rolled them over my eyes, closing them, as he leaned forward to kiss me.

"Thank you," he whispered as he pulled away," but I do have one question."

I smiled and rolled my eyes, he returned my expression and continued." Why yellow? I don't understand."

"Yellow is my favourite colour," my smile widened as the understanding spread across his face, and the creases ironed themselves from his forehead. Edward had always hated not understanding my thoughts; it becomes very frustrating for him. He leaned forward and put his lips to my ear.

"Bella, I love you, I love you now and I'll love you always."
