Disclaimer: Our lovely people at Level-5 own this, not me.
There they stood, a gentleman wearing a tall top hat and a black coat, and a boy wearing a blue beret and sweater.
I half-kneeled to talk to him, for he was short even for his age.
"And who might you be, little one?" I couldn't help the sing-song in my voice.
The boy, looking affronted, took a step back and declared pridefully:
"I'm Luke, Professor Layton's apprentice!"
I stared at him, until I shifted my glaze onto the Professor himself. He seemed a little embarassed about his apprentice's behaviour, and was hiding under the brim of his hat. Repressing a knowing smile, I asked him:
"As it was with the Ancient Greeks?"
He tensed visibly and tried to hide a little more, while Luke just seemed confused. After a moment, Layton let go off the brim and answered me with a wary smile:
"No, nothing of the sort."
"I see." Not yet, huh?
I stood up, nodding to myself. The kid didn't have a clue about what I had meant; he still looked rather puzzled. I remember thinking that it was the best for the time being.
PS: The punchline here is that in Ancient Greece a relationship between a mentor and his apprentice was almost always sexual as well as intelectual. It was an accepted behaviour and sometimes even encouraged. If you knew, I congratulate you. Or if you didn't, well, you just learned something! Isn't it good? Have a nice day!
