"Face Off"

Disclaimers: Prince of Tennis is not mine.

Summary: Drabble. Rikkai-centric. Two formidable forces engage head-on in a battle for ultimate supremacy.

---------------------------------------

Intense brown eyes clashed gazes with sharp teal ones.

The brown eyes burned with flaming determination and an immense desire to win. They were bent on achieving the ultimate goal – to prevail against the opposing force. They reflected the image of a wild cackling fire, raging ferociously, ready to consume everything in its path.

The teal eyes were calm and composed but exuded a menacing glint. They were keenly observing every slight movement, at the same time, plotting crafty schemes to take down the enemy. They reflected the image of a vast ocean – tranquil on a sunny day, but destructive on a stormy day.

The deciding moment was close at hand. The air was tense; every soul watching sat at the edge of their seats and waited with batted breath. Who would reign supreme? Who would outwit the other? Who would claim victory?

Teal eyes gleamed tauntingly as the move was made. Take that. They cackled in delight when a look of agitation crossed the burning brown orbs.

Brown eyes darted to and fro, perplexedly surveying the situation. The last move broke the pace and turned the tide to the opponent's favor. No, it should not end just like that. I have to win.

Three seconds ticked by.

Brown eyes lit up suddenly. They twinkled gleefully as teal eyes looked on in shock and bewilderment at the stunning comeback strike.

"Check."

Sanada grinned triumphantly as he laid down his winning piece. Yukimura looked mildly stunned, but immediately recovered himself. A smile slowly crept on his face as he let out a deep breath.

"That was a clever move, Genichirou. I'm impressed. You're still as sharp as always."

Sanada could not help but be pleased with himself. Beaming proudly, he directed a glance at his captain. "Want to have another go at it?"

Yukimura nodded with a cheerful smile as Sanada arranged the shougi pieces back on the board.

Author's notes: For those who are not familiar with this game, shougi is Japanase chess and is one of Sanada's hobbies. More info on this can be found in Wikipedia.
