It started two years ago, when we moved. I didn't like our new house. There was something unsettling about it. And the way the old owners had answered when we asked why they were selling it. They'd said something about "too many sad memories". What is that supposed to mean?
Anyway, I was setting up my Wii and small television in my new room and realized the remote was out of batteries. There was a desk in the room that was already there when we got to the house, and I remembered that I had seen a package of batteries in there earlier when I was cleaning out the drawers. Sure enough, there they were.
But as I was putting them into the wiimote, I noticed something else in the very back of the drawer. It was a cd, labeled "Wii Fit" in sharpie. A fake copy of Wii Fit, huh? At first I was afraid it might tear up my wii or something, but eventually curiosity got the better of me, so I fired up the console and popped the disc in.
I started the game and began to insert my character data, everything going smoothly. I'm pretty happy by now. I mean, I just found myself a free video game in my new house! Maybe I got the wrong idea about this place.
Then, I step on the wii balance board to input my weight. That's when I realize there's something horribly wrong with this game. It says I weighed zero pounds, which I can assure you is not true. My mii's body is barely visible it's so thin, and I think it's as tall as possible in the game. Not only that, but my mii's eyes and cheeks look kinda… sunken in. I can feel my heartbeat quicken and my hands shake. This has to be some kind of weird hack, but it's pretty cool. As long as the game works fine, who cares?
But that's not where it ended. I found that all of the minigames were already available without having to earn them, so I happily played a few, although still unnerved at my mii's appearance. Then I tried a game called Lotus Focus. I think that was my mistake. No, my mistake was probably putting that cursed game in my wii to start with. Anyway, the goal of the game was to sit as still as possible, so I sat there with my eyes closed, trying to feel my inner peace or whatever. But the whole time there's this weird sound like someone walking towards you across a squeaky floorboard. It sounds so real that it kind of freaks me out for a second, but I'm determined to sit as still as I can, so I just ignore and keep my eyes closed.
After a while, the squeaky footsteps just stop completely. Good, now I can focus, I think. I wasn't sure how long I'd sat there, but after a while I started to feel dizzy, so I decided to quit. I opened my eyes and there was a message on the glitchy, flickering screen.
You will die in 005:000:000:000:000. There is no escape.
Five years. And the second I moved off the balance board, it started counting down. Now I knew why the previous owners left this house. But they couldn't escape it, and I know I can't either. I only have three years left.
