Ok guys here's the first chapter of the SEQUEL to On a train to Canada. Are you as excited as I am right now!? Cause I'm pretty excited! Well onwards to chapter one!
April 1954
Astrid was awoken by the sound of her alarm clock, and her dogs licking her face.
"Guys! Stop it! Gross!" She scowled at her ageing border collie and blood hound puppy. She sat up and picked up Rusty, her puppy and took him outside, who, annoyingly, still wasn't housetrained.
Once Stormfly and Rusty were finished their... business, Astrid made her way to the bathroom and just stared into the mirror, then down at her forearms.
There were cuts all down each arm, cuts she wasn't proud of. She remembered once, 15 years before when she was 10, telling her best friend Heather, 'its only fun if you get a scar out of it.' in this case that definitely wasn't true.
Astrid had depression, not just because she missed Hiccup though, she had meany other things that affected it. One reason was the fact that her family is gone and when they were taken away, she never got the chance to say goodbye. Plus sadly, five years before, she lost the ability to have children when she was in a car accident and a shard of glass puncherd her abdomen. In other words, her life was a mess.
She absolutely hated cutting herself, but it eased the pain, sort of. Astrid knew that if Hiccup ever found out, when he comes back, he'd be so mad at her.
Then she decided to go get dressed, so she did, then she heard the front door swing open.
"I'm home!"
"Jackson!" Astrid exclaimed and ran to the front door to give her adopted father a big hug.
"How've you been?"
"Happier."
Jackson then scooped Rusty up into his arms and scratched him behind the ears. "And how's the little stray doing?"
"The stray has a name, and Rusty's doing fine, he's nearly housetrained."
"Already? Goodness I leave for a month for a business trip and he's already got a name and is almost housetrained!?" then suddenly his smile turned into a frown, he was looking directly at her arms. "And how's that doing?"
"B-better, actually... Rusty helps me keep my mind off things at least."
"That's good to hear." He said and kissed her forehead.
"Oh, by the way Jack you have like five library books due."
"I've got a lot of work stuff to do, do you mind dropping them off after school?"
Oh gosh school! She almost forgot!
"Oh goodness I almost forgot! I've gotta go!" she exclaimed and grabbed her bags and Jackson's library books and headed out the door.

Astrid walked away from UNB (University of New Brunswick) and began walking towards her car. Once she got in she immediately buckled her seatbelt, though nobody did that, ever, she always did after the car accident.
She began driving towards the library, which thankfully was only a few blocks away. Once she had parked next to the building Astrid grabbed her books and went in.
She dropped the books off and began towards the door until a poster caught her eye. It read, 'War stories told by former soldiers' it sounded interesting so she decided to stay and wait until it started 15 minutes later.
A small crowd of about 15 children and a few other adults gathered around the first man of three who were telling their stories today. He looked as if he was in his late 50s and he had fought in both world war 1 and world war 2, and his story was pretty interesting, but of course Astrid wasn't listening.
She was thinking about Hiccup and his goofy smile, loving personality and well, about everything else about him.
Astrid snapped out of it went the third man, about her age rolled into the room on a wheelchair. He had messy auburn hair, beautiful green eyes, a goofy smile, he was missing a leg and...
'Wait a minute... could it be?' she thought to herself.
He went on to tell the children about his adventures in Korea and how he busted his right knee, but soon his tale had ended and everyone was either leaving or talking to the men. But soon she made the decision that it was time to leave, even if this man reminded her of Hiccup, it was probably just her mind playing tricks on her again.
So she stood up from her chair and began towards the exit, until she looked back at him one last time and they made eye contact.
"Astrid!?"
