"I'm starting to think I need a haircut." Jacqueline frowned, holding a knotted mass in one hand and her hairbrush in the other. She had started to wear her hair loose instead of in a bun and was quickly remembering why she always tied her hair up- it tangled easily.
Kim snatched the brush from her hand. "You have to start at the ends first." She gathered a section of hair and gently brushed the ends and worked her way up.
Jacqueline watched Kim from her her reflection in the vanity mirror. "Hey... is this why you cut your hair short? Because it was so much trouble?" Her cheeks burned, remembering when the witch had pink locks that dusted the back of her knees. They had one class together the first semester Jacqueline started, and back then, with her hair long, Kim sat in the seat in front of her. Jacqueline had no troubles concentrating in her other classes, it was only in the one they both attended that she lost her focus. She always found her eyes drifting from the blackboard to Kim. Her hair looked soft and fluffy, and even a chair away she could smell Kim's shampoo.
Her own hair was to her shoulders then, and after sitting behind Kim in class she began to grow her hair out too. Now it was just as long as her meister's had been then.
"You have dead ends, Jackie. Jeez, if you're going to have long hair at least take care of it."
"I meant to. . . it's just with exams I've been really busy. . ." her voice trailed off, distracted.
Kim had worked her way up to the scalp. The brush's bristles gently raked through Jacqueline's hair. It felt nice, like a massage.
She closed her eyes. If she were a cat, she would be purring. Her hair was long detangled, but Kim continued to brush, humming to herself.
A few minutes later she set the brush on the table.
"I'll just add it to your tab-" Kim said, raised her brows, and put a hand on Jackie's shoulder. "Hey- Jackie!"
Jacqueline blinked groggily before closing her eyes again, leaning against Kim.
". . .She fell asleep."
