With a shaking hand, she slowly reached out to- what? To make sure it wasn't her imagination? To convince herself that she believed it was him? She wasn't sure, but she couldn't help but reach out to him. The tips of her trembling fingers expected to feel the broadness of his shoulder which she remembered all too well, but instead they felt cold as they passed through him. Tears filled her eyes as she slowly brought her hand back to her side. What had she expected? That he'd come back?

Don't be stupid, she thought to herself, you watched him die.

Her tears ran down her face as she remembered how he had bled to death in her arms. She shook her head, trying to somehow erase the vivid memory.

"I love you."

Her head snapped up and she stared at the figure before her.
"What? What did you say?" she asked, taking a small step forward to make sure she heard right. But instead of answering the figure smiled, his eyes growing warm and happy.
"It's what I came back to tell you," he said, tears filling his own eyes.
She fell to her knees. "I needed you to know," he continued, "I couldn't rest until I was sure you know how I feel, how I've always felt." The tears he had been holding back finally overflowed.
"I love you too," she whispered.
Then, the sun began to rise and the beams of light that slowly began to peek over the mountain tops made him seem transparent. She noticed him fading away and instantly got up on her feet.

Shaking her head in disbelief, Kagome begged, "Don't leave me, please. I can't loose you again."
As the last of Inu Yasha disappeared completely, he looked at her and smiled, his voice echoing, "We will always be together...at least in each other's hearts."
