Her phone beeped again to alert her to the fact she had a text and cautiously she picked it up. It was exactly like the other text that she'd recently been receiving, problem was that they were anonymous.
"Do what I say or your husband and everyone else will know about you and a certain younger sergeant."
The texts were frequent but had never got any more threatening and had yet to ask her to actually do anything. If they had she was unsure of what she'd have done because if her affair with James got out then she'd lose her job.
James, Robbie and Laura all knew about the texts as Jean had been worried and Robbie and Laura knew of the pairs relationship. A collective decision was made not to act on the texts until they became more specific. That didn't mean that every time she got a text that she didn't feel that sick feeling you get when something's really wrong. With every time her phone went the feeling got worse and she wasn't sure she could wait much longer. She could do some secret digging but someone would find out and she'd still end up having to explain herself either way.
"I want you to meet me in the small café down the road at 1. Don't be late and don't bring anyone."
That was it, the specific detail they'd all been waiting for.
She left her phone in her draw before going through to Robbie and James' office and closing the door behind her.
"Are you okay? You're very pale." James asked with concern thick in his voice.
"I've had the specific text we've been waiting for."
"What did it say?" Robbie asked as his brain began to kick into gear.
"To meet whoever it is at the care down the road at 1 and not to bring anyone."
"Right, we need to really think this through before you go." Robbie was right but the clock told them it was 12 so they didn't have long in which to do that.
