A/N: Written for the Mega Prompts Challenge, word prompts 84 - disillusioned. This is the scene in the manga where Tohru offers a hand of friendship to Akito after she's stabbed Kureno, but the cliff crumbles under Tohru before Akito can take it.

The ground crumbling away from beneath her was an irony
too cruel; the one with the blade had just lost
that resolve when nature plucked the choice
from her hands.
And she was petrified; she couldn't even move,
reach that hand that brushed against hers in an offering
of peace, and all she'd longed for aside –
But then that was gone, fallen, just out of reach.
