He never wanted to be reminded of the time he thought his life was terrible, because now he knows that it's the best life gets.

The world before it ended

Looking at the boy reminded him of his past, of all the times Potter and Black sent remarks, sneers, hexes and curses at him.

"You'll never amount to anything."

"Your living a fairytale Snape, you can't expect Lily to fall for you ! She'll obviously fall for me, a man that will treat her well, not a greasy Slytherin git."

"Death Eaters don't deserve sympathy."

Of all the times they turned his robes pink, gave him shampoo for his birthday in front of the whole school, locked him in the girls bathroom stunned.

And at the same time he was reminded of Lily and all the times she had defended him, her brilliant smile, her emerald green eyes whenever she was lost in thought.

And seeing her eyes, on his face brought back the bullying he endurred and the good memories that ended to soon. And because looking at him made him wish it was back to that.
