Chapter One

Hermione Granger stepped through the wall and onto the platform, taking a deep breath before looking around. She saw Ron hugging his parents goodbye. He saw her and nodded his head. She nodded back before heading past him and onto the train, her luggage floating behind her. Before getting on the train, she saw Harry in the middle of a group of boys, all high-fiving each other. Just like with Ron, she and Harry just nodded at each other before she headed on the train and found an empty compartment at the back of the train.

She'd only been sitting for about five minutes when the door opened. She looked up and saw Harry standing there, both of them looking at each other awkwardly. Then he just turned and left, closing the door behind him. She sighed and looked out the window. When had this happened? When did Ron, Harry, and her drift apart? She wasn't quite sure but things had definitely changed over the summer?

Not that it had been a great summer to begin with. The vomiting and the headaches had been almost unbearable. Maybe Madame Pomfrey would know what was wrong. Shaking her head, she lay back in her seat and closed her eyes, hoping no one would bother her the entire train ride.

Several hours later, the train pulled to a stop, waking Hermione from a fitful sleep, plagued with nightmares. Blinking groggily, she looked out the window and realized they had pulled into the Hogsmeade station. Dragging herself out of her seat, hoping she wouldn't throw up once again, Hermione slowly made her way off the train and into a carriage. Three other students that she didn't know joined her and the carriage took off for Hogwarts. Once there, she got out, stopping to throw up in some bushes.

"Oh, did the little bookworm get a little motion sickness," a voice said from behind her. Hermione didn't even have to turn to know who it was, but she did anyway, wiping her mouth with her sleeve.

"Bug off, Malfoy," she said weakly, turning to go inside. She had just made it into the Entrance Hall, when the world began spinning around her. Then everything went black.
