Breaking Tradition
They had never said 'goodbye' after one of their secret trysts before. Bad luck – they were children of war, after all. They either made arrangements for their next meeting or said nothing at all.
So when the ceremonial music began, he assumed they would discuss when they would meet once more. He assumed that all was right even though she had to take part in this silly event. But when she pushed away from him he could see it reflected in her eyes and it was unwanted and unsure and pleaseIdon'twanttodothispleasepleaseplease –
"Goodbye."
And then Hermione Granger turned and walked down the aisle, towards Ron Weasley and her future as his wife.
He would've chased after her if he had been anyone else. Instead, Draco Malfoy straightened his tie and apparated away.
It was almost as if he was never there.
And on her left hand she wears his broken heart. And on his left hand he wears nothing.
