A/N: I don't really know what this is... well, it's somewhat of a reaction ficlet to last night's episode (so, slight spoilers, if you hadn't realised that yet). In a way. It's also one of the few things I've actually written this month. For some reason, it's in present tense even though I normally only write in past; and I've also never written Tina's POV before. Eep. Oh well. Enjoy, I guess :)
Disclaimer: Of course I don't own Glee...
It's her mother who picks up the phone, and Tina, too caught up in trying to find a way to fit all the plans she and Mike have made for the summer into the time they have, doesn't think too much of it. It's probably some telemarketer or someone who's mistaken their phone number for that of the flower shop two streets down.
She's surprised when her mother suddenly stands in front of her, handing her the phone and shrugging, indicating that she has no idea who it is. Tina holds the phone to her ear hesitantly – nearly everyone who's likely to call her has her cell phone number, and her and Mike's parents, although not each other's best friends, at least know each other – and says, "Hello?"
"Tina Cohen-Chang?" a somewhat gruff voice asks, and Tina knows she should know it, but it doesn't instantly ring a bell for whatever reason.
"Speaking," she replies after only a second.
"Great," the man on the other end of the line says. "Listen, I need a favour, and I was wondering if you could help me out…" Before she can ask who this is and what makes this man think she's just going to help him, he adds, "It's Burt Hummel – Kurt's father."
Now she recognises his voice. Sure, she's been at Kurt's multiple times, but only once had she done so while Kurt wasn't out of the closet, so his father never checked on them every ten minutes like Mike's mother was prone to do when Tina and Mike had just started dating. Kurt's dad mostly lets them be most of the time. Now that he's in Washington half the time, she hardly ever even sees him anymore.
"Right, of course," she says, noting that it comes out somewhat embarrassedly. "What can I do for you, Mr Hummel?"
"I need your help planning Kurt's graduation present." He then proceeds to tell her what he has in mind, and she can't help but smile fondly. Kurt's really lucky to have a father like Burt Hummel. Not that her own father isn't anything less than amazing, but she doesn't think he would want to learn a dance and get up on stage to perform it. The same goes for her mother.
She promises not to tell Kurt anything and to give Brittany a call. It's supposed to look as authentic as possible and, besides, although Tina likes to think she's a pretty good dancer, she knows well enough that Brittany's better than her in that respect. If Brittany can't teach Mr Hummel the dance, no one can.
After telling Kurt's dad that she and Brittany will stop by his house the next day – when Kurt will be at the cinema with Blaine – she disconnects before taking out her cell phone to call Brittany. It takes a while to explain what's going to happen, but Brittany sounds enthusiastic enough. Afterwards, Tina goes up to her room to see if she still knows the basics of the dance. She does.
Kurt's face will doubtlessly be priceless.
A/N: So, what do you think? :) Let me know, please leave a review! :)
