Snow Globe Nightmare

Everything was black.

Everything was silent.

Everything was still.

But he held his breath, waiting.

Then the earthquake came and everything changed.

He was tumbling in circles, hitting the barrier again and again.

Then it stopped.

He lay on the ground, breathing hard and praying that it wouldn't come, but even as he prayed, it had already started.

It had begun to snow.

Even though he knew that it was no use, he got up and tried to avoid the falling flakes.

He was successful for a few seconds, he always was. Then one little snowflake would fall, on his hand or his nose or the back of his neck.

This time the first one fell on his forearm. The sudden sizzling pain as it burned his skin made him lose his focus and he was assaulted with snowflakes. He hissed at the burning and tried to brush off the snow before it burned too much. He brushed and brushed until all the skin on his hands was burned and bleeding, but the snow was still falling.

The pain was excruciating.

He was screaming.

Suddenly, there was a warmth on his shoulder. It was different from the burning. It was gentle, comforting. Then he was shaking, the source seeming to come from the warmth on his shoulder. The pain began to fade slowly and the blacks and whites and reds of his world became yellows and blues and greens.

"Hey, it's alright," said a familiar voice as the shaking continued.

Carlton sat up suddenly, looking around in a panic. Then his eyes were dazzled by the sight of glowing hazel.

"Shawn?" Carlton said, sounding slightly confused.

Shawn grinned down at his lover. "Who were you expecting? Santa Clause?"

Carlton frowned slightly, "Not funny Shawn."

Shawn sighed dramatically, "Fine, budge up then."

Carlton moved over and made room for his younger counterpart on the sofa.

Shawn curled his arms around Carlton and pulled him into a hug, kissing his temple lightly.

"Better?" he asked.

Instead of a verbal reply, Carlton nuzzled Shawn's neck and hummed softly.

Shawn chuckled, "With you around who needs a little boy cat?"
