t was a beautiful day in California, the sun was shining and there was a slight Pacific breeze. Sabina was walking along the boardwalk looking at all the different stalls selling cheap jewelry and greasy food. With weather as nice as this, one thing she wasn't expecting was a huge gust of wind to sweep the big, floppy sunhat off her head.
The hat tumbled and rolled in the breeze and ran smack dab into a man holding an ice cream cone. The cone, which had been chocolate, smashed into the nose of the man. He was a tall man with large muscles and short hair, but he had a kind face that looked like it smiled a lot. His companions all laughed as he tried to like the chocolate off his nose, without success. Sabina rushed up to the man without fear and apologized to him profusely.
"I'm so sorry sir; let me buy you a new ice cream cone."
"No, its ok I don't mind." Sabina was a little bit surprised to realize that he too had an accent, similar to hers. Hers in fact had been fading ever sense she arrived in America. She accepted her hat which he handed to her and had turned around to leave when she was called back by another one of the muscled men.
"'scuse me, miss, but do I know you?" He said with puzzlement clear in his voice. She shook her head and looked more closely at the men, all the sudden she made a connection.
"You wouldn't happen to know an Alex Rider would you?" Immediately the man's eyes lit up for he finally remembered where he saw her. Alex had had a picture of her with him on one of his missions. Sabina had recognized this man from a picture Alex had on his bedside table, they had red hair cut short and pale skin. It was from a minor mission with this man.
The other three men were still looking more than a little confused. But the first man decided not to elaborate at the moment.
"We're here on vacation, what about you?"
"I live here with Alex. Ever since Jack died we became his guardians." Ben looked down when Jack was mentioned but looked back up and met her eyes.
"Tell Alex I say hi"
"I will, Ben" with that she turned her back on the four soldiers and walked home.
