Stargazing
"You seem to be enjoying this astronomy project, Lia," Danny commented, adjusting the telescope. Lia grinned.
"The stars do play an important role for all races," she said.
"Really? How?" Danny asked.
"Well... all the different races on Earth have a guidance star or constellation. Us elves, for example, take our from Pleiades, the Seven Sisters, because of it's shimmering affect. And all werewolves follow Sirius, the Lupine's Star, as well as their other races' star, and the North Star is for fairies, pixies, nymphs, exedra, because they fly faster in the cold, and the Milky Way is for humans, because it shows them the vastness of space and lessens most of their egos ."
"Do the ghosts have a star?" Danny asked unexpectedly.
"Hmm... I don't think so. Usually I think we just follow the star we followed in life," Lia said slowly.
"I think we need a star."
"How come?"
"Because, well..." Danny started.
"Go on."
"Well, it's hard sometimes, to think of yourself as half-dead, and some guidance might help."
"Not to mention the ghosts are all dead," Lia agreed.
"You seem to know the stars better than I do; are any not taken?" Danny asked.
"Well, there is what is called the 'False Star'" Lia suggested. "Supposedly, the star is actually a rip into the spirit dimension. The Keeper is said to have created it herself."
"The Keeper?"
"The protector of spirits," Lia provided, "She is fabled to be extremely kind, and all spirits are supposed to be empowered while near her."
"Ah," said Danny, obviously intrigued.
"Legend also has it that she left open the rip so that lost spirits- ghosts- could get home."
"How did she create the rip? Wouldn't that take an enormous amount of power?" Danny countered.
"Well, didn't your dad make a portal to the Ghost Zone with just a man-made machine?" Lia asked.
"True. Where did you learn all this?"
"From my teacher when I still went to an elven school, from some of the ghosts in the Ghost Zone, and from a friend last time they were on Earth," Lia said, counting off on her fingers.
"Who?"
"Just a friend. You want me to show you where the False Star is?" Lia digressed.
"Sure. Where?"
"Right there," Lia said, pointing to the middle star in Orion's Belt. "It's also known as the 'Belt Buckle'" Lia said.
"That should be our star," Danny said, "It's easy to find."
"Not our star, Danny," Lia corrected, "The ghost star."
"We should name it," Danny said.
"Yeah," Lia agreed.
"What though?" They thought about that for a second.
"Howsabout, the Half-Star?" Danny suggested.
"Why?" Lia asked.
"Because, us Halfas named it, and it's not really a star, just a portal."
"You have a point. Yeah, we'll call it Kera-Vana, Half-Star," Lia said.
"Yeah," Danny agreed.
They both stared into the night, their new star shinning bright.
