Pancakes
It was dark. But not so dark that Ally couldn't tell she was alone in her room.
It had been a long afternoon of trying to write a song for Austin's concert the next day. Looking at her clock it seemed it was the next day. 12: 37. They really needed to work on their time management. Maybe Austin could join the club.
Her attention was brought back to the fact that, said blonde boy was not where he had been earlier.
Ally also noticed she now had no shoes on and a blanket wrapped around her. Her heart swelled.
She heard a muffled clatter from somewhere nearby. Throwing the blanket off Ally grabbed a nearby pillow on the off chance that she would need smother a murderer if the noise was not courtesy of her best friend.
Padding out into the hall, fizzing noises seemed to be coming from the kitchen. She approached quietly, finally rounding the corner and setting her eyes on a wonderful sight.
Austin. The noise was a gentle simmering of pancakes in a frying pan. And Austin - he was dancing around shirtless singing under his breath, his back to her his muscles tensing and untensing as he moved. She could faintly hear the music coming from his headphones and his lips and recognised her own song - not one she wrote for him - Hers.
She felt butterflies break free in her stomach. But a frown etched her face. She thought back to her date with Dallas yesterday,
Dallas had picked her up from her house and walked to the Mall. They were currently strolling by an ice-cream shop and it was around lunch.
"Ally would you like some ice-cream" Dallas had asked looking at her. Ally noticed his eyes were a muddy brown and not sparkly as she had once thought. They were not warm like Austin's hazel ones. Shaking this thought away she nodded and they made their way over. Dallas ordered for her -cookie dough- she didn't even like cookie dough, Austin knew that. He had talked for the rest of the outing, she didn't get a word in. Austin always let her ramble even if it was nonsense. She left soon after, saying she had to write with Austin. She had needed too and that was the excuse she made as to why he had occupied her mind all day.
Her thoughts settled and a smile finally made its way across her face. He was perfect, even with his hair messy and his husky woken up voice. He spun in a dance move and his eyes found Ally's'. His grin matched hers, "Ally!" he exclaimed happily, raising a spatula in his hand "I made pancakes,"
Ally laughed, "I can see that," he ran forward and grabbed her small hand in his warm, larger one,
"You want some?" He asked and she nodded still laughing. She slipped onto a stool at the counter as Austin got the last pancake out of the pan and onto a plate then added toppings. He pushed it towards her and jumped into his own chair. Not hesitating in attacking his midnight snack. She studied him and he swallowed already finished and looked at her, "What?"
This boy. He was cuddly blankets and warm hands, he was dancing shirtless, he was leaving things to the last minute, he was hazel eyes, he was pancakes at midnight. That was so much better than ice-cream at lunch time. But most importantly he was Austin. And it was for all of these reasons that Ally leaned forward and kissed him.
He stilled in surprise and she could only picture the shock on his face as her eyes were closed as she savoured his lips - they were soft like his hands. Then he sunk into her and kissed her back. Her stack of pancakes were forgotten, but that was okay she could taste them on his lips.
They pulled away slowly, after what seemed like seconds and smiled. Austin spoke first, "I love you,"
Ally kissed him again in response. It was a kiss that told him that she loved pancakes, and she loved midnights, but only with him and that she loved him too. And then there was nothing else to say. Nothing else seemed important.
