A Dark Past
KC Guthrie didn't seem like the type of guy who would have many secrets. Especially bad ones. He got really good grades. Infact,he was in advanced placement classes,he was sarcastic and had three amazing friends. He was good at sports, especially skateboarding. Who would ever think, even for a moment that he might have a dark past?
He guessed that could be considered a good thing. After all,it meant that he would never be questioned,or pitied or looked upon differently. If his painful past was out in the open, those things would surely happen. At times he wished he could tell Claire everything. He knew she would listen and be supportive but his pride kept him from saying a single word.
KC shut his eyes as he remininced. It was all so fresh in his mind like it had happened yesterday instead of a year ago. He could see Charlie, who had been his step father walk drunkenly through the door. He could see his mother crying no sobbing in a corner of the living room as she watched her daughter,KC's sister get beaten by Charlie. But most of all, most of all KC remembered the day that April saved his life--and lost hers. April had been sixteen at the time and had been very protective of her brother. One day, their mother was gone and KC had forgotten to do something,KC couldn't even remember what and Charlie had been mad,mad as April and KC had ever seen him. When Charlie had made an enraged move torwards KC,April had jumped infront of them and in a soft, determined voice said,"Don't hurt him. Please don't hurt him. Do whatever you want to me,just please don't hurt my brother." Charlie's answer was to smirk and grab April by the thick strands of her strawberry blond mane and kiss her lips hungrily. KC knew what was going to happen and he tried to shut his eyes, tune it out. But Charlie had yelled at him and had told him to pay attention. He had to watch his sister be brutally raped and beaten to death before him. He could clearly remember a laughing Charlie leaving without a word. The next thing KC had done was try to find his big sister's pulse,it had been so faint and April was unconcious. KC had crawled through the mess of sticky red blood on the floor to get the phone. By the time the ambulance and his mother had gotten there,April was already dead. He hated that he had been unable to save April Michelle Guthrie,he regretted it every, single day.
His hand reached into the neck of his shirt, tears streaming hotly down his face and dripping off his chin as he pulled out a silver chain with a little silver and emerald cross hanging from it. It had been his sister's. And in the back of his mind he came to the conclusion that it was time for those dark secrets to be finally freed,i order to save himself.
The End
