"I already told you. You're pigeon-toed."

Yeah, so I couldn't think of a better summary. Anyway it's a shorty but I hope you like it. :)

Set before Hikaru dyes his hair and starts getting all angsty with Tamaki.

Disclaimer: I own OHSHC... in opposite land.

Tamaki sat glumly at the foot of a cherry tree, watching the cherry-blossoms fall without really seeing them as Hikaru's spiteful words drummed themselves into his brain.

They needed a family portrait. It was as simple as that. He didn't understand why everyone was being so difficult about it. A family portrait was a permanent visual representation of the Host Club, capturing a moment and freezing it in time. They needed a family portrait. So he asked and begged and coerced and annoyed everyone until they agreed to it. Only Hikaru and Kaoru refused to budge. He continued to push for the picture until finally, Hikaru exploded.

"SHUT UP! Just shut up! We don't want a family portrait with you. We hate your stupid bloody family fanatasy, when the hell are you going to wake up? We're not your family, you're not our father, we don't love you, we are not close and you know nothing, nothing about any of us. Stop trying to use the Host Club to make up for what goes on your personal life. It's not our problem that your real family is a bloody mess. We don't care if they don't want you because we don't want you either, got it?"

"Hikaru..." Kaoru attempted to placate his brother.

"That was too harsh Hikaru." Haruhi frowned at Hikaru but... she didn't correct him.

Nobody did. Nobody told Hikaru he was wrong because he they didn't think he was. Everybody thought that... that Tamaki was just blindly using them.

"No... it's fine. We don't have to get the picture. Please excuse me."

Tamaki could see one of the twins walking up to him in his peripheral vision but he refused to look at him. He stared blankly into space, watching the cherry-blossoms fall slowly to the ground. From the corner of his eye, Tamaki saw the red-head sit down beside him and stare at his hands.

"Look, Tono... I'm... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to lose my temper... I just..." Tamaki didn't need to hear anymore. It was so obvious.

"Go away Kaoru." A nearly imperceptible flinch. Bingo.

"What? No I'm-" Tamaki cut across him. He wasn't in the mood. He knew Kaoru probably meant well but he was really only making Tamaki feel worse. Kaoru shouldn't have to feel obliged to apologise to him.

"Kaoru. I know it's you. Are you going to leave or am I?" Kaoru paused for a moment before answering.

"How could you tell it was me?" That was the thing about the twins. They were so wrapped up in themselves and their own self-importance. Kaoru wasn't apologising because he felt bad for Tamaki, he was apologising because he felt bad for Hikaru. And as soon as the subject was changed back to them, he stopped caring. Tamaki stood up and replied in a dull, albeit slightly biting tone.

"I already told you. You're pigeon-toed." Tamaki walked away. If Tamaki had bothered to turn and look at Kaoru, he would have seen a simultaneously angry and worried look on Kaoru's face as his head flicked back and forth between glaring at Tamaki's retreating form and contemplating his own feet.

It wasn't until much later that evening that Kaoru realised that Tamaki hadn't looked at him once during their entire conversation, let alone at his feet.

Hehe. Well I hope you got it. I wasn't too obscure was I? I love the bit in the manga where Tamaki is chasing the twins giving out stupid excuses as to why he can tell them apart.

Do you think Kaoru told Hikaru?

Much love for any reviewers.
