Alec's eyes finally lighted on Magnus across the Hall of the Accords. As he strode across the floor, Alec was mildly embarrassed to note that his pulse was quickening and he felt a few degrees warmer under his heavy gear, as he tended to when Magnus was around. He stopped in front of the warlock, noting a look of mild surprise on his face. Alec's previous courage began to wane.

"Ah, so – this binding Mark," muttered Alec quietly. "I was wondering if you'd be my partner. If there's not someone - "

"Alexander, there is no one I would rather have as my partner," Magnus cut in. "For anything. Forever." Magnus kept his voice low, glancing furtively at Alec's parents.

Alec's mouth hung slightly agape as his stomach rolled over, threatening to return what little he had eaten. He blinked once, and with renewed courage, and took Magnus' hand in his own and began tracing the intricate lines Clary has shown him. He heard Magnus gasp slightly, not expecting the sharp burn of the stele on his skin. His palm was warm and smooth and Alec couldn't help but smile a little. Once he was finished, he glanced up at Magnus, still cupping his freshly Marked hand within his own. Magnus had a small wistful smile on his face that made Alec's chest hurt in ways he had never felt. Max's death had made him felt physically ill, but not like this. It was certainly no worse, but different. Sharper.

"Magnus, I - "

"Alec, you don't have to say anything, it's really - "

"But, I do really - " Alec shot a quick glance to the side of the Hall, where his parents were absorbed in talking to someone else.

"It's okay. I underst-" Magnus was interrupted by Alec's arms around his neck and Alec's soft mouth pressed firmly against his. Alec felt Magnus tense in surprise, but gradually felt Magnus' lips turn up at the corners in a wry smile and his arms twine around Alec's back. Sensing that perhaps the kiss had lasted too long to be entirely polite, Alec tilted his head away. Magnus was still smiling and shifting glances to the Lightwoods' shocked faces.

"I'd have no one else for my partner either," said Alec softly, openly winding his hand around Magnus'. "Now, how would you like to officially re-meet my parents?"
