"But I can't help falling in love with you…"
Dean sings into the secret sauce he's mixing, crooning along to the Elvis record Sam had picked up at a thrift store. It's too late for cooking, or singing. But he can't do anything more for Sam tonight except let him sleep and he needs distraction, and he figures Sam can't hear him from his room. He sways his hips as he goes.
"Shall I stay would it be a sin…"
As he spins around, Dean flinches and turns bright red. He's suddenly face to face- nearly nose to nose- with Castiel. He sputters, tries to come up with something to say for his private performance, ask some deflecting question about where he's been or the status of the tablet. But Castiel doesn't move, just smiles small and warmly.
"Dean," he nods. "Please, continue," he says, suddenly across the kitchen, placing Dean's bowl on the counter. Dean tries not to turn and look at him.
"Naw," Dean shakes his head, rubbing his neck.
Castiel walks back toward him, feigning looking mildly into the next room, as he presses on, "I believe the next words are,
'Like a river flows, surely to the sea
Darling so it goes, somethings were meant to be…' "
As he sings, Castiel comes to stand directly in front of Dean again, Dean unable to look away, his face brightening in spite of himself at Castiel's smooth voice.
With a sigh and a smirk at himself, Dean extends his hand, takes Castiel's. The Angel is now the one to look a bit confused.
Dean places Cas's right hand on his shoulder, ignoring Cas's small frown of concern, takes his left in his own, looking down at it as he begins to sing again.
"Take my hand, and take my whole life too…"
Dean looks right in Castiel's eyes, and Cas turns faintly pink as he joins in.
"Cuz I can't help falling in love with you…"
With that Dean puts his hand around Cas's waist, trenchcoat and all, and begins to lead them in a slow, simple blues step around the room as the song continues and repeats. Shockingly gracefully, Castiel notes. And smiling as if surprised by his own actions. Castiel smiles back, drinking in the sight and feel of a relaxed Dean Winchester. If possible, he burns even brighter than usual.
Dean is nearly giddy with letting himself do this. Dancing in circles with a freaking Angel of the Lord. Who seems to know how to dance pretty well. He pulls Cas a little closer, arm going around his back as Castiel's hand goes around the top of his shoulder. He takes in the out of place feeling of the trenchcoat, the surreal feeling of Cas's warm, quick breath on his cheek
Almost without noticing, Dean leans his cheek against Cas's as he pulls them around again, swaying his hips. And then it's only a matter of inches, of millimeters, and Dean is kissing Castiel. A tiny slide of movement to change his entire world.
And Cas hardly misses a beat before he's kissing him back, Dean's relief flooding through him. Cas's arms tightens around his shoulders, still holding their hands together as they kiss. Dean is overwhelmed by the softness and intensity all at once.
But it's right then Dean realizes the song is still going.
"Only fools rush in, but I can't help…"
Sam must have snuck in and set the needle back on the record player. Dean pulls back as he considers fratricide, but just chuckles. If Sam's that cool with it, then so is he.
Castiel tries to catch his eyes, catch the joke. But Dean just shakes his head as, holding Cas near and starting to sway again, he brings his face close again, singing quietly against Castiel's lips,
"Would it be a sin, if…"
Before his lips close once more over Castiel's. And for just this moment, that's all there is.
