There was an awkward silence throughout the car as Oliver Pierce drove to the airport. Today was the day. He was dropping Brittany, his daughter, to the airport. She was going back on tour. To Afghanistan. To fight a war. She was suppose to have another few months off, but she was called back early.

As they walked through the airport to find Brittany's gate, Santana quickly took Brittany's hand in hers. She spent many a nights trying to convince Brittany to drop out, but she couldn't. Santana knew this was coming, but she hoped that Brittany would at least get to meet their baby.

"I guess this is it," Brittany said softly to Santana. She said quick 'goodbyes' to her family, managing to hold back her tears. But then she came back to Santana. "I love you so much San," she wrapped her arms around her fiancee.

"Please be careful baby."

"I will. I'm coming home to you and our son, I promise," she kissed the crown of Santana's head. As soon as she parted from Santana, she leaned down and kissed Santana's baby bump. "I love you baby boy," she kissed her belly again. Santana then lifted her head up and kissed Brittany one last time before the soldier walked off to her gate.

"I love you Britt."

June 10th 2022

"Mommy?" A little boy crawled onto Santana's bed and poked her arm. She opened her eyes and turned into her side to see her son, Jonah Samuel Lopez, staring at her with his big brown eyes.

"Good morning baby boy," Santana replied as Jonah laid down next to it.

He snuggled into her chest. She ran her fingers through his short brown hair. He was the spitting image of her.

Jonah was born on the 10th of June 2018, 5 months after Santana's fiancée, Brittany, left for Afghanistan. They used their friend's, Sam Evans, sperm and it only took one try to get Santana pregnant. She was four months pregnant when Brittany left. She hadn't seen Brittany since.

"Guess what day it is Mommy," Jonah smiled, looking up at Santana.

"Hm, I don't know mijo," she teased. Of course she knew what day it was, it was her son's birthday. "What day is it?"

"It's my birthday!" He enthused and shot up. He stood up and jumped up and down on the best.

"Really? Gosh, I forgot to get you a present," Santana sat up. Jonah immediately stopped bouncing and furrowed his eyebrows. "I'm joking mijo," the brunette pounced forward and tickled Jonah on his stomach.

"Mommy, stop," he thrashed his little legs around, giggling uncontrollably. She peppered kisses all over his face. He pouted and widened his brown eyes like a puppy and Santana couldn't help but give in.

"Okay," she lifted him up over her shoulder and stood up. He managed to climb around onto her back. "How old are you Jo?"

"I'm four," he held up four fingers in front of Santana's face.

She walked into the living room. "You're such a big boy," quickly, Jonah jumped off her back and sat on the sofa. "You bathed last night, go pick out a nice shirt and some shorts. I'll make pancakes for us."

"Yay!" He enthused, jumping off the sofa and running to his room.

Around the whole living room, there were picture of Brittany. Santana didn't want her son to grow up not knowing who his other Mom was.

The only time Brittany had ever met her son was over Skype calls, at least once or twice a month. Santana hadn't received one in two months. She worried about her fiancée every day. She looked down and her engagement ring and thought about the day Brittany proposed.

March 8th 2017

"Hey babe? Can you come over to the school?" Brittany said through the phone.

Both Santana and Brittany were back at McKinley High School for the 5 year reunion.

Santana was lying on her old bed, with her feet kicked up on a pile of pillows. "Why?" She ate another piece of apple.

"Just come here, it's a surprise."

The Latina instantly sat up. "What's the surprise?"

"It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you," Brittany chuckled. "Just get dressed and come over here."

Santana was suspicious. None of the old students would even be at the school. Everyone was probably visiting their families.

"Okay, see you soon I guess," Santana smiled. She hung up the phone and jumped onto her feet.

Santana pushed the doors of her old school open and slipped her car keys into her pocket. When she looked around the school, it was dark and only lit up by pink fairy lights across the top of the lockers.

She had no idea where Brittany would be. It was only by coincidence that she found Brittany standing next to some lockers, it was their old lockers.

"Hey," Brittany leaned forward and kissed Santana on the lips.

"What's the surprise?" Santana asked quickly.

"This is your surprise," she pulled out a small wooden box. Santana knew exactly what it was. "What date is it today?"

Santana hesitated to answer, still in shock. "Um, March 8th."

"Yeah, today marks the 6th anniversary of the first time you told me you loved me," Brittany looked at the lockers. "Right in front of these lockers."

Santana smiled, tears forming in her eyes.

"You have no idea how proud of you I was that day."

Santana nodded along. It was finally happening. Today was the day.

"I was going to recite this whole speech for you but quite frankly, I don't want to wait any longer to ask you this question."

Yep, this was definitely happening.

As expected, Brittany got down on one knee in front of Santana.

"So, Santana Lopez wil-"

"Yes!" Santana interrupted, not being able to hold in her answer any longer.

"Can I ask the question at least?" Brittany laughed softly.

"Sorry."

"Santana Lopez, will you marry me?" Brittany opened the wooden box to reveal a glimmering engagement ring.

"Yes, of course," Santana bounced up and down on her tip toes. Brittany stood up and held her waist. She pressed her lips against Santana's, as Santana wrapped her arms around Brittany's neck. It was a soft kiss. Santana's lips lingered on Brittany's as they pulled away for a deep breath, before Brittany;s went back for seconds. She 'booped' her nose against Santana's before pulling away one last time.

Brittany took a step back and slid the ring onto Santana's finger. "We're engaged," Santana whispered, her lips now against Brittany's.

"We're gonna get married."

Santana sighed and then bent down and pulled out the pancake mixture from a cupboard.

It was a surprise when Brittany got called back to Afghanastan. She joined the army just after school and was back and forth until a month before the engagement. She was told that she had a year off, but was sent back after ten months.

They wanted to start a family as soon as possible, and begun the process in July 2017. The first person they asked for a sperm donation was Brittany's half-brother, Sam, and he was happy to help.

Jonah Samuel was conceived in September of 2017.

September 30th 2017

It had been two weeks since Santana's insemination and Brittany was coming home with the pregnancy tests. Santana had never been more nervous.

When Brittany opened the door, Santana immediately snapped her head up.

"Hi," Brittany leaned against the door frame. "You ready?" She pulled the box out of the bag.

"As ready as I'll ever be," Santana smiled. She leaned forward and took the box.

"Do you want me to stay?"

"Uh, can you stand outside while I pee?" Santana pointed at the door.

"Okay, I love you no matter what," the blonde pecked Santana on the lips. She left the bathroom, closing the door behind her. She slid down the door and clasped her hands together. "Please, please, please be pregnant."

As soon as Santana had peed on the stick, she knocked on the door. Brittany hopped up and pushed the door open.

The brunette shrugged. "Now we wait," she and Brittany sat down on the floor, the stick in Santana's hand.

"Don't give your hopes up baby," Brittany rubbed up and down Santana's arms.

"My hopes are already up."

"I know, me too."

When the alarm went off on Brittany's phone, both of them flinched. "Do you want to check it?" Santana asked Brittany. She was too nervous to check the test. But then again, she knew Brittany was also way too nervous. "Or shall I check it?"

"I'll check it," Brittany leaned forward and took the test off the floor. "Can you count me down?" She asked with a soft chuckle. Santana nodded slowly.

"Five, four, three-" Brittany couldn't wait any longer. She turned the test around and her eyes widened. "Brittany," Santana whacked the blonde on the wrist. "Wh-what does it say?" She asked quietly. Brittany didn't answer, she just continued to look at the test. "Britt, tell me."

"You're pregnant. We're having baby," Brittany squealed. She attacked Santana's lips. "We're having a baby, baby," she continued to kiss Santana, dropping the test behind her. "You're pregnant."

Once Santana was finished cooking the pancakes, she stacked them onto a plate and poured maple syrup over them for Jonah. "Bon appetite," Santana placed the plate of pancakes on Jonah's lap.

Jonah was dressed in a red button up shirt and black shorts. Santana crouched down and fixed his hair into a faux hawk. "You're such a big boy mijo."

He looked at Santana and smiled at her brightly. "Is Momma coming home for my birthday?" He asked suddenly. There wasn't a day that would go buy where Jonah wouldn't ask about Brittany.

Every time he asked, Santana's heart shattered. "No, she's not," Santana would always have to reply. It especially broke her heart on Christmas or on Jonah's birthday.

She knew that this would happen as soon as Jonah came along, every year she had to tell him that his Momma wasn't coming home, and every year it completely broke her heart.

June 10th 2018, 7AM

"Hey buddy," the little baby squirmed around in Santana's arms. He was only 4 hours old, yet Santana had already fallen in love with him. He opened his eyes and scrunched his eyebrows.

There was a knock on the door. Santana called them in and sat up in her bed. "Hey Sam," she smiled. Sam hadn't seen his nephew, only her and her parents.

"Where's my 'lil nephew?" He walked over quietly to Santana's bedside. "He looks just like you," he said, staring at the baby adoringly. "Look at those brown eyes."

"He's got the Pierce freckles though," Santana laughed softly.

"Did you sleep at all?" Sam dragged over a chair and sat down.

"About an hour after he was born," she twisted the small boy in her arms so that he was facing Sam, who was making funny faces at the baby. "Your Uncle Sam is silly mijo, isn't he?" his small eyes eyes flickered between Santana and Sam, but then he completely focuses on Sam.

"Have you heard from Brittany?" Sam asked carefully. He didn't want to upset Santana too much.

Santana shook her head, still looking at her son "I'll see if I can Skype her later."

"Let's just do it now," Sam shrugged. He pulled his bag off his back and pulled his laptop out of it. "Hopefully we can get through."

"Sam, you don't have to," Santana told him. "I'll just wait for her to call me."

However, Sam didn't listen. "Her son was born today, she should know."

Oh, Sam was a stubborn man sometimes. Santana didn't protest after that. She waited patiently for Sam to get a connection and then to try and Skype Brittany. She managed to distract herself by cuddling her son closer to her chest.

Then she thought about a name for her son. Nor Brittany or Santana had thought about a name for him. They were too distracted by the fact that, well, Brittany wasn't here, in New York with Santana.

But Santana was quickly pulled out of her thought when Sam spoke up. "The call is going through," he said happily.

At the suddenness of Sam's voice throughout the room, the little boy buried his face in Santana's chest. He scrunched his nose up, something he definitely got from the Pierce's, and his face went a shade of red.

Sam apologised repeatedly when the little baby began to cry. "Don't worry," Santana reassured, rocking him and 'shushing' him. "Hey, calm down baby boy."

"He's gotta pair of lungs on him, he'll be singing in no time," Sam chuckled. He stood up and placed the laptop on the bed in front of Santana as the call went through.

Gradually, Santana's son's cries died down into little whimpers and then into nothing as he closed his eyes.

The call hadn't been answered after a few tries. "Sam, don't worry. I'll wait for her to call me."

"It could be months Santana, I don't want Brittany to go on without meeting her son."

"You think I want that? I begged her not to go, but she had too. It sucks Sam, but this is what we're going to have to do until she comes back," Santana snapped. Sam was taken aback by her sudden outburst. "Sorry."

The blonde man sighed and shook it off. He tried to call Brittany one last time. Just as he was about to hang up the call and give up, Brittany's face appeared on the screen.

"Hi," she waved quickly. The graphics were surprisingly quite good and they were able to see Brittany clearly. "What's going on? Why did you call me? Wait, why are you at a hospital?" The blonde furrowed her eyebrows. "Babe?"

"Today our little baby boy was born," Santana said with a smile on her face. Brittany gasped and covered her face with her hands. "I-I don't know his name. He's amazing Britt, I really wish you could be here." She tilted their son at an angle so Brittany could see him.

"Oh, my God," Brittany breathed out. "He looks just like you baby. I wish I could be there too," she had tears in her eyes and blinked them back.

"I-I have no clue what I want to call him though," Santana said, twirling his small locks of brown hair in between her fingers.

"I-I think I have a name," Brittany scrambled around the desk the computer was placed on. Even though she couldn't be there physically, she wanted to be as much as a parent to her son as she could. So naming her son was something she really wanted to do. "Um, here," she uncrumpled a piece of A5 paper and smiled. She looked up and down the small list of names. "Jonah," she said softly. "Jonah Samuel," her eyes flickered over to Sam who was in the corner of the room.

"It's perfect baby."

And with that, Brittany left.

Santana couldn't take it. She handed Jonah to Sam, who placed him in his crib. He then hugged Santana who began to sob uncontrollably.

"What're we doing today?" Jonah asked, stuffing his face full of pancakes. He bounced his knees up in down, the sugar rush kicking in.

Santana leaned forward and picked up a napkin from the coffee table in front of them. "We're having dinner with Uncle Sam and Cedes, and Jackson," (Jackson was Mercedes and Sam's son) "at five. But until then, we can do whatever you want," Santana pulled down Jonah's collar that was sticking up, he was always messy and clumsy like Brittany.

"Can we go to see a movie?"

"Is that all you want to do mijo?" She furrowed her eyebrows. Her son usually wanted to do anything and everything possible.

"Yeah," he shrugged.

"Okay," Santana leaned forward and kissed him on the forehead. "I'll get you your presents."

"And last but not least, Momma's present,"

This was the last thing that Santana had received from Brittany. Santana picked up the small box on the floor and handed it to Jonah. He first opened the small card and read it out loud.

"Dear Jonah,

I'm really sorry that I can't be with you to celebrate your fourth birthday. You're such a big boy now.

Happy birthday, son. I love you so much and I'm so proud of you.

See you soon.

Love Momma."

"See you soon?" Santana asked herself quietly. Brittany never said 'see you soon' on her cards. The brunette shook her head and then gave Jonah the small present. He immediately ripped the wrapping paper off it. Inside was yet another Polaroid picture from Brittany. It was a picture of Brittany and of Jonah's teddy bear, Brownie, that he sent over the previous year. "Do you wanna go put that up in your room?"

Instead of responding, Jonah jumped onto his feet and ran to his room. He pinned it up on his cork board, cluttered with Polaroid pictures of Brittany and even Santana.

"Do you like it?" Santana asked, standing in the doorway of his bedroom. Jonah nodded his head quickly.

"It's my favourite present."

"Better than the Captain Americe shield?" She teased. He nodded quickly, smiling. Santana stood at the end of his bed. She grabbed him around the waist and Hughes him tightly. "Of course it is. Your a Momma's boy."

5PM

Santana pushed the door open to the Pizza Hut, with Jonah on her back. She immediately saw Sam and Mercedes sitting in a booth, with Jackson, who was only a year older than Jonah.

Seeing other couples with their children always hurt Santana. She always wanted Brittany there with her, to be her other half.

The Latino boy jumped off Santana's back and ran over to his Uncle and hugged him around the waist. Mercedes stood up and hugged Santana around the shoulders. She knew Santana was sad, she was every year.

"Stay strong San."

Santana let out a shaky breath. Mercedes rubbed her back and then stood back from the hug. She smiled at Santana, who was now walking towards Sam.

Sam always gave the best hugs, apart from Jonah and Brittany (obviously), in Santana's opinion. He had these big, strong arms that always made you feel comforted.

He parted from Santana and then ruffled Jonah's hair. "You're such a big man," he poked Jonah in the stomach, causing him to giggle.

The pair of boys sat down, followed by Sam, Mercedes and Santana. They all immediately got into a deep conversation and started to look at the menu.

When Santana looked up, she looked straight at Sam and furrowed her eyebrows. He was looking at the doors to the restaurant with a smirk on his face. As soon as he realised Santana was looking at him his face showed no emotion and he looked back down at his menu. Santana shook her head - 'Sam's just being weird,' she thought.

But Sam had something up his sleeve.

"Shall we order?" Sam asked. He lifted his head and Santana could see that his eyes were darting all over the restaurant.

"Yeah, let's order. Are you okay?" The latina asked Sam. The blonde smiled at Santana and nodded his head. "Okay, Jo, what do you want baby? Nuggets and fries," Santana said knowingly. Jonah nodded his head quickly. He leaned over the table and fist pumped Santana. She saw Sam calling over some help. When she felt the presence behind her, she began to order, not looking up. "Can I get fries and nuggets."

"And what drink would the little guy like?" The waitress asked, and Santana immediately recognised that voice. Tears instantly sprung to her eyes.

"Momma!" Jonah exclaimed. He stepped out of the booth quickly, as Brittany dropped her bag and crouched down. Jonah hugged Brittany around the neck as she stood up and spun him around. It was the first time she'd met him, the first time she'd hugged him. And it felt amazing.

"Happy birthday Jonah," Brittany kissed him on the cheek and squeezed him as tight as she could. "I love you so so so much baby boy. I'm so sorry I wasn't here before," she peppered kisses all over his face, before setting him down again. She turned on her heels to look at Santana. "Stand up before I start crying," she opened up her arm. "Oh my God," she held Santana tight, pressing kisses to the top of her head.

Brittany had only been in New York for forty minutes, but had planned to come back for two weeks. She had flown into New Jersey that morning and called Sam, planning how she was going to surprise Jonah and Santana.

"I missed you so much San," Brittany hugged Santana as close to her body as she could. She parted away and then captured Santana's lips for the first time in four years. Tears streamed down her face as she moved her lips against Santana's. "I love you," she mumbled against Santana's lips. She had her arms wrapped around Santana in a warm embrace. They continued to kiss until they heard Jonah.

"Ew," he grimaced in disgust from watching his Mom's kiss for so long. Brittany rolled her eyes and turned around. Once again, she picked Jonah up and then took off her camouflage hat and fixed it onto Jonah's head. She hugged him again tightly, addicted to the feeling of her son. Then she saw Sam standing up and walked over to him. As well as she could with Jonah in her arms, Brittany hugged Sam and then Mercedes.

"You knew," Santana smiled at Sam. He shrugged and then nodded at her slowly. "Oh, my God," she attached herself to Brittany again, so now the blonde had one arm draped over the two loves of her life. "H-how did you get out?"

Brittany took a seat in the booth, Jonah sitting right next to her. Santana sat on the other side of their son. "Honourable discharge," Brittany looked at Santana adoringly. "I'm not going back baby," she reached over Jonah's head and caressed her cheek.

The little boy looked up at him Mom. "Your staying Momma?"

"Yeah, I'm never leaving you," she lifted Jonah onto her lap and peppered kisses all over his cheeks. "I'm home, and I'm never going back," she said, mainly looking at Santana. "I love you Jo. Happy birthday baby boy."

All it took was a ring in that soft sunset,
Big blue eyes welled up and said, "This is home."
In the 'fridgerator light never looked so good,
Holding you tight kissing all I could sayin', "I am home."

And that's where I wanna be.
Yea, wherever you're with me.

November 1st 2023

It had been just over a year since Brittany returned from the army. She and Santana got married straight away, not being able to wait any longer. They married on the 20th of June 2022, a hot day on the beach in Florida. It was a small gathering, just Santana and Brittany's families, and some Glee club members. They just wanted to get married as soon as possible.

They talked about moving to Florida for a few months, and Brittany began looking for houses and jobs in Florida. On the 10th of October, they moved out of New York and started a new life in Orlando, Florida. They found a four bedroom house in Florida, and bought it as soon as they could, with all the money they had saved up. Santana managed to get to get a job in a restaurant straight away, and Brittany got a job fixing broken computers in an Apple Store.

In December they talked about expanding their family. They went back and forth, debating who should get pregnant. But after a week of debating, they decided who would get pregnant.

"Mommy," Jonah ran down the hall and into Santana's arms as she returned from work. She tossed her keys onto the table and hugged Jonah.

"How was school big man?" The latina put down Jonah. She ran her fingers through his hair. He decided to grow out his hair and so now it had the Lopez thickness and loose curls.

"So cool, we got to choose what instrument we want to learn," he enthused, smiling brightly.

"What instrument do you want to play?"

"The piano, because I know you play the piano," he told her proudly. Santana smiled back at Jonah.

"Where's Momma mijo?" Santana asked. She sat on the sofa and pulled off her shoes.

"She's in your room, sleeping," Jonah told Santana. Jonah had grown so much more closer to Brittany over the past year, and had turned into a complete Momma's boy. Although he got to talk to her over Skype when she was in the army, Brittany being back in America brought them so much more closer. Santana only realised then how much they were alike.

"Okay, put some TV on," she kissed Jonah on the cheek and then walked upstairs to her room. When she opened the door, she immediately saw Brittany sleeping on her side. Brittany began to stir around and whine a little bit. Santana sat on the side of the bed and leaned down to kiss Brittany's cheek. "Good afternoon Sleeping Beauty."

"Hey," Brittany sat up, with the help of Santana. "How was work?"

"It was good. There's a job opening for head chef, I might go for it."

"You're an amazing chef, go for the job," Brittany rested her head on Santana's shoulder.

"How's my 'lil Princess doing?" Santana rubbed Brittany's almost 9 month baby bump. Yeah, they decided that Brittany would get pregnant. They used Santana's brother's sperm and in Febuary 2023, on the second try, Brittany got pregnant.

Santana felt soft taps against her hand as she continued to rub Brittany's belly and them leaned down to kiss it. "She's been kicking all day, and she's missed her Mommy."

"Mommy missed her too," she peppered kisses all over Brittany's bare belly. Santana was absolutely in love with their unborn daughter, and was wrapped around her little finger. And Jonah could not wait to meet his little sister. "You ready for her to come Britt, it's almost your due date."

"It's gonna hurt, isn't it?"

"Yeah, it's gonna hurt baby."

November 2nd 2023, 1PM

"You're doing so good baby," Santana kissed Brittany's sweaty forehead. "I'm so proud of you."

Brittany went into labour at 2 o'clock in the morning, and had gone through ten hours of contractions. "Keep pushing baby."

"I've been shot at, but this is ten times worse," Brittany growled, collapsing back onto the bed.

"Mrs Lopez, I can see the head crowning," the doctor said. Brittany took her wife's hand and began to squeeze it again as she started pushing. "The head-"

"Just get her out," she shouted - tears were falling down her face. "Please," she cried softly. Santana moved a strand of blonde hair that was stuck to her face by sweat behind her ear.

"Just a couple more pushes baby," Santana assured her wife.

"3, 2, 1..." The doctor counted down and Brittany lunged forward, pushing one last time. "Here's your little girl," it all went so quickly. Brittany heard her daughter crying, Santana snipped the cord, and then she was placed on her chest.

"She's beautiful," Santana said, tears on her cheeks. "You did so good baby."

The little girl was taken back and wrapped in a white blanket, and now had a small pink hat on her head. Brittany sat up and took her little girl again. "She looks just like you," Santana said to her wife.

Just then, the baby opened her eyes and they were bright blue like Brittany's. "Our little Lexie," Brittany said. Santana nodded her head slowly. "Lexie Amber Lopez."

2PM

"This is your little sister," Santana said to Jonah. He climbed onto the end of Brittany's bed. "Careful, Momma's a little bit sore," he leaned forward and looked at Lexie, who was sleeping in Brittany's arms.

"She looks like Momma," he commented. "She's really pretty."

Lexie opened her eyes again and looked up at Jonah. He stroked her cheek with his index finger. "I like her."

"Well that's good mijo, because we're keeping her," Santana chuckled softly, kissing the top of his head.

"Good, 'cuz I love her," he countered back, smiling at Santana.

"You're already such a good brother," Brittany told her son. She looked around at her small, little family and smiled. She use to think that her life was in the army, but that was only a small part of her life. This was where her heart was at.

"This is home," she said to Lexie, taking her small hand.

Wherever you are, that's where I wanna be.
Wherever you are, that's where I wanna be.

I'm home.

Just a little one-shot I've been working on. It's not that good, but I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for reading this!

Read my other fics, they're half-decent.

The song I used was 'This Is Home' by Bryan Lanning.
