Chihiro's Poem
Hello everyone. This is Imaginarius '84 and this here is my first fanfic. The story of Spirited Away is timeless and deals with maturity and how unfortunate circumstances can serve to bring out the better qualities in us. I tried to capture that in a poem. I was inspired by the lyrics of Paul Simon, who is one of my all-time favorite singer-songwriters. Now, I've never published anything like this before so any constructive criticism is welcome. I hope you enjoy.
Soli Deo Gloria.
Gloom like a purple curtain
Draped over my shoulders like a phantom.
Indifferent as a blackening storm cloud
Oppressive as a repetitive anthem of
The sorrow of departure.
Lifelessness in living.
Leaving loved ones behind me.
Sorrow unforgiving.
Then there's a switch in momentum.
Suddenly the world just got stranger.
Suddenly alone and bewildered
In the midst of a supernatural danger.
The peril of departure.
Then an unexpected ally.
He appears like me but isn't.
He's my friend; I can't deny it.
To the rest, I am an outsider.
I am utterly alone.
A withering leaf in a wilderness.
With no place to call a home.
Then the sun casts its golden rivulets
Upon the confined shores of my heart.
Slowly but ever surely
I begin to learn.
Slowly my strengths are unhidden.
I learn to hold on a little longer.
Circumstance aimed to oppose me
Served to make me stronger.
I learn to persevere
And soon I grow out of my childish shell.
Slowly I turn
Surely I become
More than what I was before.
All is right and all is well now.
Now I leave this perilous haven behind.
My friend gives me his promise.
Our lives intertwined.
The sun casts its golden rivulets
Upon the unconfined shores of my heart.
So it shows
That unfortunate circumstance
Helps to cleanse and prepare us
For life.
