A/N: You'd think that I would update one of my other fics, but no,I fancieda random one-shot instead. If you are a regular to Raven fanfics, don't expect to read any more from me. I have no intention of writing any more fics in this category. I was inspired by the episode where Devon has to move to Seattle. If anyone's interested, I will probably be writing some Lemony Snicket fics soon. Well, here you go eveyone, my newest fic. Enjoy!

Pain

The taste of his kiss still lingered on her lips, but she knew that he was gone. She was faintly, faintly aware of her surroundings; aware of a friend's embrace; aware of anxious eyes' prodding; aware of something ending, something beginning. But all that she could see was him. And he was all that she longed for in her heart.

Closer, and closer he came now, as his hours were numbered. She wanted to run to him, run into his arms, hold him and never let go, but it was too late for that now. He was so far away already, and soon, he'd be gone.

Closer still, he approached her without faltering, though she could see the glimmer of sadness in his eyes. Though he loved her too, she felt it impossible that he could be feeling what she was in that moment; and yet, when he finally stepped his last step toward her, she knew that every wish, every craving in his heart was for her.

Through any heartache that she'd endured before, not once had it felt so intense. It was like her entire world, everything she'd ever loved or admired or cherished, was crashing down, imploding over her head. As he stopped in front of her, those heavenly lips finally moved as he uttered his last words to her:

"Goodbye, Ray."

Trying to hold back her sorrow, she managed to bid him farewell with two equally meaningless words:

"Goodbye, Devon."

And then, he was gone. Everything became all too real in an instant. The people, the friends, the eyes, the endings. It was too much. She ran out of that church and never looked back, never to see him again.

She did not know where she was going, but decided to travel wherever her legs led her. She wound up outside of the school, where she'd first spotted him in the hallways, made dates with him by the lockers, seen him holding his father's ring...

In the misery of her true love's departure, she fell to the ground and wept, leaned against the front door and wept. For what felt like hours she sobbed, her eyes turning red and her clothes dirtying, but none of this mattered, not now that he was gone.

Time went on, and she lay there in silence, just watching him in her head. At times she'd begin to cry again, or she'd yell out in anguish, declaring her pain to the midnight stars. No one knew where she had gone, no one knew how she lay there and sobbed.

She was shaking, shaking from the cold, for fear of waking up and realizing his absence yet again, having to grieve for their love again. She shook harder and harder, and that's when she felt it. Two strong, caring hands caressed her weary shoulders and halted her thoughts of desperation and ending it all. She shook and shook, and those hands took her into a loving embrace, sheltering her from the tears pouring out of the sky.

But how can he be here, she thought, if he's already gone?
