Chapter One: The Beginning (Random PoV)
Alyessia Rossano took a step back to get a better look at her reflection. Stormy blue eyes looked back at her. Her skin was pale in the gloomy candle light. Tightly curled dusty blonde hair framed her face in ringlets. Her icy blue gown glittered from all of the tiny crystals that clung to the sheer material of her bodice. Yards of gauzy, slightly darker blue, made small tiers floating down to her dark blue brocade dancing shoes. Smiling wistfully at her reflection she thought to herself " Oh I do wish that Lis was my escort tonight. Instead, I'm stuck with boring old Richard. All he ever talks about is his family ancestry. That does get rather old sometimes. Oh well. Father musn't know."

The slam of her bedroom door, startled her out of her reverie. Frowning to herself she turned to face her mother, Lady Selene.

"Hello, Mother. I was just about to come down."
"Very good child," Lady Selene looked at her younger daughter and sighed, " Oh do keep your chin up darling. I know your father matched you rather poorly but things will get better in time, you'll see darling. Now come, your father and Richard are waiting.

Merely nodding, she put on her gloves and followed her mother into the dimly lit stone corridors of the family castle.

Walking with grace and ease down one of the two arching staircases that led into the grand foyer, Alyessia was met by her designated escort, the young Lord Richard Duvall III. He was of average height and built with non descript brown hair and eyes. Although his eyes lit up when he saw her, she knew it was just an act. Neither she nor Richard truly cared for the other, but in their social circle appearances are everything.
