It's th' most wonderful sight Ah've evah seen as a Goddess emerges from th' water. Ah know we're not supposed t' believe in Gods an' Goddesses an' all. Ah was raised in church. Ah believe in God an' in Jesus, even if Ah do wonder sometimes why He made a freak like me. But lookin' at her comin' toward me, glistenin' water drippin' off o' her perfect, chocolate skin, Ah can't think o' anythin' else.
She was worshipped as a Goddess before, an' seein' her now, Ah can understand why th' natives got so mixed up. She ain't no Goddess, not really. She's just a mutant like th' rest o' us. But if Ah was any less strong, Ah'd be pantin' like all th' guys around me, wantin' t' worship at her altar.
In truth, Ah still do. Ah'm shakin' inside as she comes toward me. Ah don't see Kurt's tail whippin' around like crazy. Ah don't see th' beer Logan's dropped, even though it's runnin' over mah bare foot. Ah don't see Jean hitting Cyke for gawkin' or Hank's an' Bobby's mouths open or even th' Professor's eyes bulgin' outta his head. Ah see only her.
Ah want her t' call mah name. Ah want her to reach out an' touch me, touch me like she did before when we were alone on th' banks o' th' Mississippi River. But she ain't gonna do it. Even now, she's acceptin' a towel from Forge an' smiling at Logan. She ain't got clue one Ah'm even here, so Ah turn, fightin' down mah feelin's an' fly away, nevah seein' her eyes trail behind mah own barely clad back.
The End
