Something I had thought of when the gaang had entered the fire nation. It takes sometime in between Sokka's Master and Nightmares and Daydreams. And yes, I know boomeraang isn't spelled with two a's :)
A:tLA and all related topics are NOT mine.
Toph sighed and leaned against the wall of her rock tent, scanning her mind for ways to possibly entertain herself. There wasn't anything to do in this dump of a nation when she wasn't picking on Aang and Sokka, and she had her share of that for the day already. She began to retell herself some of the stories her mother had told her as a child, but she stopped, remembering that they were all kissy stories of girls who couldn't take care of themselves.
So she began to remember some of the stories Katara had told her about what happened to their little gang when Toph hadn't yet arrived. One story in particular stuck out in her head. It was the story of the 'Avatar Day', when Aang had been thrown in jail. She recalled something Sokka had said, when he had lost his boomeraang.
'Imagine if you lost your arrow, or Katara lost her… hair loopies.'
Toph laughed, "Sokka's a psychic." But the more she thought about it, the more it kind of… freaked her out. She tapped her foot on the ground and focused on Katara's vibrations. She seemed to be boiling some water in a small pot, preparing to make her 'special' soup. Her hair was down, in the custom fire nation hair style.
"Hair loopies missing… check." Toph muttered.
She tapped her foot again and focused on where Aang was chatting with Sokka. Sokka was sharpening his new sword, not his usual boomeraang.
"Boomeraang gone… check."
She could feel that cloth on Aang's head, which Katara had said would hide his arrow. He was wearing his school uniform, and the sleeves reached his fingers, also to hide the arrows.
"Arrows hidden… check."
She shook her head. Sokka, the boy who had always mocked and ridiculed fortunes and psychics, had made a prediction come true, without ever realizing it.
"Wow…" She muttered, "…When Sokka makes a fortune come true, you know the world is a messed up place."
