AN: Well, this isn't what I was expecting out of my first Hetalia fic. This is just something I whipped up, so while it might not be as good as something with more of a plot I hope it's still somewhat enjoyable. I also hope that Latvia is still relatively in character…
The room was frigid and cold, and there was nothing the small nation could do. He was trembling even more than usual, despite all the blankets he had cocooned himself in. Latvian winters weren't as bad as the ones he had spent in Russia, but they still weren't anything to sneeze at.
Also, back in Russia he had two others to keep him warm; both physically and inwardly as well.
Lithuania and Estonia had always been with Latvia, no matter what Russia had tried. After the first few years of being ruled over by the larger nation, the Baltics had gotten close despite their differences. Each of them had a certain role in their makeshift brotherhood. Lithuania was the kind and protective one who would do anything for the other two. Estonia was confident and smart. He always seemed to have a plan no matter the circumstances. And Latvia… well apparently he brightened the other two's day with his commentary on things.
However, none of that mattered now. The Soviet Union has been disbanded and everyone had gone home. Lithuania had been reunited with Poland and America. The Nordics had thrown Estonia a small party of sorts. Latvia hadn't expected anyone to greet him similarly. However, Sealand had surprised him by tackling almost as soon as he opened his door.
That was already a month ago and he hadn't heard from Sealand since then.
Latvia hugged the thick blankets closer to his tiny frame. Come to think of it he hadn't heard from either of the Baltics in quite some time. The first week he got calls to check up on him, but in the past two weeks there had been nothing.
Well obviously… Lithuania has his eccentric friends to talk with and Estonia has all of the Nordics, especially Finland. The nation shivered. I could call Sealand myself, but I don't want to bother him. Besides, I'm supposed to be strong for him, not the other way around. If I told him I was lonely and having these… problems what kind of effect would that have on him? He is only twelve after all.
As soon as he ended his thoughts a large creak emanated through the house. The Latvian jumped and pulled the covers over his head as if to protect himself.
Relax. Stop Shaking. You're fine. He's not here. Russia can't get to you. He can't hurt you anymore. Short clips of memories flashed through the nation's mind. Breaking a glass, forgetting a duty, or accidentally mouthing off. All of them ended with the same results. Tears started to leak through his eyes and he did nothing muffle his sobs.
A month ago his fears would have been precedented. A month ago Lithuania and Estonia would have been with him, comforting him. A month ago how could still sleep soundly at night despite the conditions.
But it wasn't a month ago; it was the present.
And in the present he was alone.
