This couldn't be happening.
The twelve-year-old boy had tried his hardest to be strong when he realized what had happened, but the longer he looked at the sight of his beaten sister he couldn't keep himself composed. Her delicate face had lost color and her handmade sweater was torn and covered in her own fresh blood, but nothing stopped her from giving her brother a tiny, reassuring smile.
"It's okay, Dipper." She said weakly as he clutched her hand to his chest, tears silently rolling down his flushed cheeks and dripping down onto his red shirt, leaving tiny marks amidst the almost invisible blood obtained from the girl he so loved as he continued to press her hand to him as if he was trying to transfer some part of his life to her, knowing this would very likely be their last moment together.
"I'm so…sorry, M-Mabel. This is all my fault…" He shook his head while his mind simultaneously went back to all the years they had spent together; all the adventures they had had.
They had known each other their entire lives, being twins, and with each day their bond as siblings grew. The two had both given up so much for each other and shared everything together. He couldn't possibly imagine having to live without such an important person in his life. Just the thought was unfathomable, and now, he knew he would have to live through such pain.
While he felt immense sorrow and depression already, the rest of him felt a terrifying amount of guilt. If he hadn't dragged her into the mysterious secrets and conspiracies revolving around the town they were currently residing in for the summer, things she didn't really want to be a part of in the first place, they wouldn't be here. She wouldn't be in such a state, dying and defeated.
"Don't be sorry, Dip." Mabel replied to him, still forcing her smile with the little strength she had. In what she felt would be her last moments, she didn't want to show any sadness, just as he did.
"It wasn't you."
After a moment of silence, taking in her comfort, he used his free arm to wipe his tears and nodded slowly.
"I love you, Mabel."
The smile his twin was forcing seemed to turn real at that moment, and it was then she let out some of the tears of pain and her own negative feelings, looking directly into the brown eyes of the kid looking at her sadly.
"…awkward sibling hug?" She mustered quietly.
Dipper fulfilled her wish and replied as he delicately, carefully lifted his dying sister up, trying not to trigger any further pain from her, and pulled her into a gentle hug, though he sobbed almost violently into her tattered sweater as he did so.
"A-awkward sibling hug."
This was the last thing Mabel Pines ever heard in her shortly-lived life, closing the eyes that matched her brother's as she was lifted into the hug and felt herself growing weary, knowing it was time to let go. She hated to say goodbye so soon, and she hated that she couldn't say anything more to both Dipper and everyone else she loved so much, but maybe this was the way things were meant to be. Maybe this would finally lead to the long-awaited defeat of the demon that killed her.
Silently, and quickly, she slipped away, and Dipper was all alone.
When he realized she was gone, his sobs grew louder and more torturous, and he tightened his grip on her limp body, never wanting to let go as she had done.
