Katie loved everything that came with sharing a bed with Trip. But her favorite part wasn't the tentative kisses and touches at the beginning, the desperate moments right before the inevitable conclusion, or even when he fell asleep in her arms.

It was when it was all over, when he came down from his high and collapsed against her, exhausted. Love you love you so much love you more than anything--

She's never told him about that part, that she can hear him in her head when they're together at night. She was almost positive that he didn't even realize he was doing it: after what happened with Lucas he didn't read minds without permission, and it only occurred when they were like this. So even though it meant the world to her (it was how she figured out just how much she loved him, after all), Katie knew she could never tell him.

Because if she did... it would scare him. She just knew. It would frighten him to have a lack of control over his abilities, he'd convince himself that he was invading her privacy or some other nonsense. Then he would find a way to stop it, and she would never have moments like this again.

Trip smiled at her sleepily before curling into her, completely unaware of what was going on in her head-- and that was just fine with Katie.

Some things were better kept private.
