If You Could Walk In My Shoes
By: Athens Eternal Maiden
A Poem in the point of view of a seasoned traveler
If you could walk in my shoes, your feet would almost fall off
And your heart would surely fall out
With all the atrocities that I've seen
And all the friends and lovers that have gone
They say "It's not where you're from; it's where you're going"
But now, I no longer know
After leaving that horror so long ago
I stole away, and was shunned by those who I had-maybe- called friends
To seek a new life, one of adventure without end
Now, I've had plenty of adventure, and my old "home" is now gone
And I long for the days when I could dream
Without knowing
What my dreams really meant
I go by many names, but, most know me as one
And that name, I have tarnished
It once meant healer, helper, and listener
Now it means warrior, monster, and destroyer of worlds
And, many of those, I have ended
I am a traveler among the stars, but, I shall never become one
Because, the darkness in my heart should soon eat me up, and all those around me
So, I get close to the stars, and pluck them from the skies for a short time
I take them with me, but, they extinguish in the end
Because, they must always return to the sky
And, if they do not, they die
Why? Why do they always die?
So, I put on a new face, a new persona, a new set of clothes
A new smile and I choose another
Sometimes, they stay for an eternity
Sometimes, just a little while
But, for that time, I always smile
I'm back to being that same old adventurer
That traveler among the stars
A raggedy man
Who can tell you the secrets of the world
And whisk you off to another
Who?
That's who.
