Disclaimer:I do not own Artemis Fowl, or anything from that series.

The shivering boy, hardly more than a child, places his hand against the glass of a window. It's the middle of the night, and dark, so dark, outside; but he can't sleep.

Why is there this void in me?

He's felt empty and alone the last few days - more than ever before. He was used to being alone most of the time, but he still felt lonliness.

Something...I can't remember it.

Flashes of memory have haunted him lately, disappearing before he can recall or memorize them, and causing his frustration to grow.

Why can't I remember?

The glass is smooth an cool against his palm; but still it reminds him of living in a cage. Even a home so lovely as this can be used as a prison. A prison to him; physically and mentally.

On the other side of the glass, a small invisible girl watches. Her hand is against his; with only the glass seperating them. A single tear drops from her eye, unnoticeable, and splashes on the tiles of the roof; mingling with the falling rain.

Why do I miss him?

He gazes out the window, straight into her face, as though he could see it, and she can see that his glistening eyes are tired. Tired, and ancient. Then he lets his fingers trail down the glass then drop to his side; while his head falls onto his chest dejectedly.

I...I...

The words, even inside her head, won't come.

Two worlds, wanting to touch. So close...and so far. The barrier is thin...so thin. But it's thick enough to keep them apart.

For now.

I'll break through to you, someday. she promises.

Someday.

Soo...my first oneshot! I hope everyone liked it, and it's pertaining to a couple of things, I suppose. Partly, where Artemis is mind-wiped, and some about their friendship.
