"What's this all about, McKinnion?" Sirius laughed and his girlfriend sat him down on the couch of their apartment.
"I need to talk to you."
"So talk to me."
"It's serious."
"So am I."
"Seriously, Black. What I'm about to tell you is going to change our lives."
"You're scaring me, Marlene. What is it that's so serious?"
"I'm pregnant."
For once in his life, Sirius Black was speechless. He couldn't utter a word even if he tried. Marlene was pregnant. They were going to have a baby. A baby that would depend on him to keep it safe. How could he be so irresponsible? How could he bring a baby into this world as it's in a war? Sure, James and Lily had done it, but they were different. Sirius would be a terrible father. He had no idea how to be one; his own sure as hell wasn't one to him. He was going to screw up the kid for sure.
"Sirius? Say something."
He was still stunned. He kept staring at her.
"I'm keeping it, thanks for asking."
He ran his hand through his hair. Oh God, he was gonna have to get a haircut before the kid was born. He couldn't have a kid while looking like a hobo. They wouldn't take him seriously.
"Fine; I'll do it by myself. I don't need you, I have Lily, Remus, James, Dorcus, Mary, Alice, Frank, and the rest of the Order that will help me," she got up and started toward the door.
Wait, she was leaving. She couldn't leave with their baby. He got up and grabbed her arm.
"Let me go, Black!" she shouted, though there were tears in her eyes.
He brought his face to hers and kissed her. He tried to convey all of the love he had for her and the baby into that kiss; tried to let her know that he would always be there and he was never going to leave them He would keep his family safe.
He pulled away and smirked. "Does that give you where I stand?"
"Definitely."
"Marry me, McKinnion."
"I thought you would never ask, Black."
