Sunsets on Horizons
Bobby Goren waited for the nurse to leave. Her heels clicked uncomfortably on the tiled floor. She must be new. Bobby stretched out beside Alex in bed, his Alex. As he curled around her he fell into the same dream he had every night, and he let himself feel Alex's arms wrap around his neck. He would wait forever if it allowed him this one pleasure. His breathing matched hers as each muscle relaxed. At the end of the hour only one heart was beating.
Bobby stared out over the city of lights. As the sun set fire to the horizon each brilliant shade of red and gold blended into the sea of electrics and he slowly lowered himself to the edge of the roof. His eyes never left that sun's rays as he waited for Alex. He would wait forever.
Her fingers brushed his hair as he let himself fall backwards. With each touch he fell deeper into her embrace. His fingers caught her shirt and twirled her around and they tumbled onto the blankets. Alex's arms slid around his neck as they kissed. Neither noticed the sun's slow decline below the horizon, and nor did they want to. The horizon was only an imaginary line and now they had forever. Now Alex was back and he was never going to let her fall again. He traced the scars along her collar bone and smiled. Forever.
