You Weren't There

Disclaimer: I do not own CSI, or Grissom and Sara. I belong to them. All mistakes are my own.

A/N: This was something scribbled down in my notebook in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep. A lack of Grissom will do crazy things to a woman. No flames please...I am a sensitive and volatile person lol.

I dedicate this to Elsa, who listens to all my insane geeklove ramblings and totally agrees with me... kisses

Sara closed her eyes and sunk into the comfort of the bedding...
She was aware of every inch of her body at that moment, as well as the body beside her.

Sara could feel the warmth of the morning sun kissing her eyelids and she opened them slowly, carefully.

This was a moment she would never forget, gazing at the man next to her.

Sleep gave Gil Grissom's features a softness that Sara thought she might never have the pleasure of witnessing.

But here he was, the man who had gone from being her mentor, to her boss, and was now her lover.

Here was her chance to study the exact shape of his eyebrows and the pink shade of his lips... Was this her only chance to catch this sight of him?

Her eyes grew wet with insecure tears. The cause? Happiness she wasn't sure she was allowed to feel, or maybe disappointment she could be headed for.

Just then he began to show signs of awakening...

Grissom let out a tiny moan as he twisted himself around so that he was no longer on his back, now facing Sara.

His hand moved only a couple of inches to where her's rested and intertwined her fingers with his own.

A ghost of a smile grazed his lips before his eyes slowly opened.

Sara saw the immediate concern in his eyes when he noticed the tears she had yet to spill. His eyebrows shop up in question but the smile never left his face.

" I ..."

Sara tried to get her words out without sounding too emotional.

"I have dreamt about this moment for so long..."

She held her breath, almost waiting for him to frown or let go of her hand, trying so hard not to let the tears fall.

"So have I ..." he said quietly.

Every doubt she had let go of the stronghold they had on her heart as he lifted her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles gently.

Sara opened her eyes to the light of the morning, watching the glow splayed across the sheets next to her.

She stared at an empty pillow.

The familiar sting came to her eyes and she tensed up, willing herself not to give in to the despair of his absence.

Unfortunately despair was something Sara knew far too well but had never built up an immunity to.

Her chest began to tighten and sobs wracked through her body.

She grabbed at the lonely, offensive pillow and squeezed it with all the power she could manage, drowning it's defenseless cotton in her desperate tears.

Many thanks for taking the time to read and review!!! (seriously, I am bowing to you lol)
