Hi all!

This is an angsty Jack/Gwen fic I wrote after the 2x09 episode, Something Borrowed.

xoxoxo

Jack was in his office. Gwen was due back from honeymoon today. The honeymoon which should never have happened. If he'd only had the balls to stand up for their relationship...if only he'd told her how he really felt. He remembered some of the things Gwen had said to him; how he had thought that she was longing for him to give an answer to; the right answer. But he had been too scared.
"Well, no one else will have me." She had said.
And she had been waiting for him to say 'I would.'
But he hadn't.
And he had danced with her. He should have told her then.
But he couldn't. She was married then.
He just carried on, as normal, danced with Ianto, acted the perfect boss.
But now, Jack couldn't help thinking what if?
What if he'd been brave enough to crash her wedding? What if he'd stopped her getting married? What if he'd only had the guts to admit to her, and to himself, that he was crazy about her?
Maybe he would have been the one she had married. Maybe he would have been the one on honeymoon with her. Maybe she would have told him that she felt the same way.
But he would never know.
Then, he saw her. She walked into the hub and brought a breath of fresh air with her. He looked at her, taking in her beauty. He had missed her. He had missed her smile, her eyes, her hair, her everything. She greeted Owen, Toshiko and Ianto. Then, he saw her eyes dart up to his office. In reality, they had been focused on his office as soon as she walked through the door. Smiling, she made her way up. She had missed Jack, too. She knocked and entered. Jack smiled as he smelled her usual perfume drifting through the door.
"Welcome home."
She stepped forward and hugged him.
"Oh, I missed you, Jack."
He smiled to himself.
"I missed you, too."
"So how did you cope without me?"
"Oh, you know, we got by. Just about."
He laughed. God, she had missed that laugh.
They finally let each other go, and Gwen took her usual place on Jack's desk.
"So how was the honeymoon?â€
“Oh, you know. Sun, sea, sand, booze."
"Sex" Jack added.
"Oi!"
She laughed.
"But I was worried about you lot."
"We were fine. You shouldn't have wasted your time worrying about us. We're big girls and boys, we can look after ourselves."
"What I really meant was I was worried about you."
"Oh?"
"I know we had chemistry, you and me, and I know you weren't all that happy about me getting married, I just worried if you were ok?"
"I'll live. As long as you're happy."
Gwen smiled.
"I am."
"Then I'm happy for you."
Gwen smiled and left the office. Once the door was closed, Jack mumbled to himself.
"But we both know it should have been me."
