"Congratulations on your daughter. I can't wait to meet her."

Three months later

Beau Bennett is seated in the waiting room of the hospital maternity ward with Joanne's fingers entertwined with his. Maggie is on his other side. Chuck and Janice are seated across from them. He's not much for small talk. All he is thinking about is the fact he is about to be a grandfather.

He had kept his word. The last three months he had truly made an effort to be kinder and more open. He was being less critical and watching Colt succeed. Despite everything going on in Colt's personal life, Beau was so proud of everything his son had accomplished at his new ranch.

"Y'all, I have a daughter. Come see!" Colt exclaimed as he entered the waiting room.

Here was the moment. Grandfather meeting granddaughter. Beau was fighting back tears. They entered the sterile hospital room. The last time he was at this place was as a patient. He thought he was going to die then. This experience was a total opposite feeling. It's hard to explain but meeting one's first grandchild gives one a sense of immortality.

"Everyone meet Morgan Rae Bennett." Abby said just beaming as she laid there with her swaddled newborn in her arms.

Beau couldn't help but think how blessed he was to have such an amazing daughter in law. She had helped Colt settle down and given him this beautiful granbaby. He waited patiently as everyone took turns holding her, commenting on how breathtaking she was.

Lastly, Colt turned to Beau and asked, "Hey, Dad, you ready for your turn?"

Without waiting for a response Colt placed the bundle into Beau's arms. He stiffened a little. In his defense he had not held a baby in more than 35 years, but he regained the muscle memory quickly.

The first thing he noticed was that new baby smell. It truly was one of a kind. Morgan was like holding a little loaf of bread. A living breathing loaf of bread.

He carried her over to the rocker in the corner of the room and sat down. He waited until everyone was chatting and not paying attention to whisper to his granbaby.

"Hey, little one. I'm so glad you are finally here. I always knew I wanted to be a Paw Paw one day, but I never knew it would feel this good. You're so loved baby girl. I was not the best dad, but I promise I will spend the rest of my days being a better grandfather to you. Also, you are so lucky to have the parents you have."

"Dad, are you crying?" asked Colt as he got closer to Beau and Morgan.

"Yeah. What can I say? I think this one is turning me into a sap."
