The diner was quiet. Not very strange, seeing as it had closed an hour ago. The only sounds were her breathing, and the swish of her mop on the floor as she cleaned.

Swish, swish, swish.

Tables were wiped, stoves were cleaned, door was locked.

Click - ring, ring. The bell above the door jingled.

Daisy turned her head. A man was standing there. Strange. She'd locked the door. Hadn't she? Yes, she had after Pit clocked out and left for the night.

"Sorry sir, we're closed." The man didn't flinch at her words. "Sir?"

He sat at a table.

Daisy sighed deeply. Maybe she hadn't locked the door. She walked to the man. "What would you like?"

"Your best meal," the man said.

"Anything to drink?"

He shuddered and shook his head.

She went to the back room. He hadn't specified a specific meal - she'd give him a salad and claim it was their most popular menu item. Five minutes later, she laid the plate in front of the man.

He stared at it for a few minutes. Carefully he picked up the fork, lifted a lettuce leaf, and brought it to his nose. Sniff, sniff.

"Sir?" Daisy asked.

He opened his mouth and put the leaf in. Chewed slowly. In the quiet, she could hear the crunch of the lettuce with every bite.

The meal went on like this. Strangely, the man only ate one bite of every part of the salad - one tomato, one red onion, one carrot. When he put down the fork and pushed the plate away, she sighed deeply in relief.

"Will that be all sir?" Daisy asked.

"It will," the man said. "But I'll be back." He stood, put out his hand. She took it. He shook oddly. "I am called Link."

"Nice to meet you Link," Daisy replied.

Link turned and made to leave the diner. His feet left wet spots on the floor. She was confused. "Sir? Are you... Okay?"

"I am fine," Link said and left. Curiosity nipped at her. Daisy waited a moment and followed Link out of the diner, swinging the door open slowly to avoid ringing the bell. The man was standing stock still in the center of the parking lot. It was almost pitch black out save for some street lights, and she had to squint to be able to see him at all. She leaned out of the door a bit more. Just when she was about to call out to him, her mouth hanging open, a large beam of light flashed through the night. She flinched back, narrowed her eyes. It was like a spotlight had descended around him - it flashed again, and he was gone. It was dark again. Daisy blinked. Went back inside, kept mopping.

No more caffeine on closing shifts.

AN - Link's an alien confirmed. (Kidding!) So this drabble was born of a little challenge my sister and I set ourselves. We each had to use two random characters from SSB, a random genre and a random word and somehow combine all those elements into a drabble we only had ten minutes to write. This is what I came up with, using the characters Daisy and Link, the Sci-Fi genre, and the word "strange".

I know this was a bit weird (okay, a LOT weird - it's very, very, very weird, and I'm not entirely sure where it came from except long nights of watching The Twilight Zone), but like I said, I had fun writing it, and I hope you enjoyed reading it :)

(Also, is no one else super excited about Daisy getting into the new SSB? Me and Gary the Goomba are thrilled; we've always wanted to see more people writing fics featuring her, and now it might be happening!)
