Prologue
What. The. Fuck.
Everything was fine, the job was going smoothly. But then, chaos. Walkers were everywhere, filling her vision from every angle. The small alley she had run into was a dead end, of course. Because luck could never be on her side for once in her fucking life. There was no escape, and she knew it, not this time. No ladders in sight, no Dad and no Carl to rescue her, this was it. Facing the back wall, she dropped her small knife and it clattered against the ground. She pounded her fists against the brick and sank to her knees, sobbing. It wasn't long before the moans of the dead slowly filtered into the alley, filling her heart with fear.
"No," she whispered, "no..no..no…"
The worst part was, she knew this would happen eventually, and she was a fool to ever think otherwise.
'Carl,' she thought, 'I'm sorry.'
Slowly, she stood up, grabbing her knife from the ground. Turning around, she was greeted by the sight of at least fifty walkers stumbling towards her. Their stench filled her nostrils and she gaged a little; She always hated the smell. Her back hit the cold brick wall behind her, and she prayed that it would give or maybe just swallow her up. Instead, it remained sturdy, unrelenting. Stupid fucking brick.
She gripped the small knife in her hand like a vice, her one last pathetic excuse of a weapon. She wondered how much it would hurt, to be ripped apart. How long would it take? A minute? Less? The fear was rolling over her in waves, locking her muscles. She didn't want to die. She had a family, for fucks sake, and they wouldn't even know what happened to her because there wouldn't be anything left. Nothing to mourn, nothing to even bury.
Her heart was pounding and it was hard to think straight. Her breathing was shallow and quick. Her body was pulsing with adrenaline and she itched to release some of the tension. The walkers were everywhere and getting closer. The first zombie came a little too close and she stabbed it in the head with quick efficiency. Her dad would be proud. More walkers stumbled towards her, and she knew this was it, Judith's last stand.
"Bring it on," she said, stabbing the next.
