Shades of Blood

Chapter 1

The dirt crunched underneath Elena's shoes as she began one of the hardest walks of her life. Growing up in the family she did she was never really allowed to cry because crying had showed some form of weakness and her parents would be looking down on her disappointed right now if they saw her even remotely thinking about crying. But what else could she have done. Even if she was raised in a family full of gang members it didn;t mean that she wasn't torn up inside when she had lost one of her family. And her parents were the closest thing to family that she had ever had.

She stared down at their tombstones as people surrounded her and her younger brother Jeremy giving them condolences for their loss. She didn't want to hear them however. It was hard enough dealing with how her parents had died without adding the multiple I'm sorry for your losses to that list. As if they knew what she was felling at that precise moment.

Elena planted her feet firmly to the ground as she watched more and more people disperse going back to their normal lives while hers continued to shatter around her. When she got back to her house the lawyers would decide what to do with her and her brother and hopefully they would make the right choice. Hopefully they would see that Elena was only two months away from being eighteen and she didn't want to be placed with anyone. She could take care of her and her brother and she wouldn't want it any other way. She didn't want anyone to get attached to them when she was planning to relocate them as soon as possible.

A hand squeezed hers sending her out of her thoughts as she looked at her brother Jeremy. She gave him a sad smile and squeezed back. She really hated that he was going through this. Than something caught her eye. What the hell was he doing here?

"Jeremy, Go wait in the car."

Jeremy nodded not wanting to fight with her. He knew that fighting with her was useless. As he walked to the car, Elena walked up to Damon Salvatore narrowing her eyes at him slightly. How dare he show up to her parent's funeral.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

"I wanted to make sure that you guys were okay."

"Are you serious? You're on the opposite side! You guys are probably the ones who did this to my parents. How dare you show your face here? Get the fuck out!"

"It's a cemetery Elena. Public property."

She narrowed her eyes slightly.

"I don't give a shit what it is. Have some respect for me and my family and get the hell out of here."

"So I'll see you at school on Monday."

"Go to hell she said before walking away.
