Dear number 9

Chapter 1

Identities

The sound of falling droplets, calming in their demeanor, awoke her from her slumber, for without it silence would have reigned and with it her never-ending sleep. Clouded eyes slowly opened as sleep gave way to awareness only to be shut again in horror.

The room was dark with shadows, a small window the only source of light. A dark liquid flowed on the floor beneath her. And suddenly she found herself drowning in a red ocean.

But she wasn't alone…bodies lay in the pools of blood. No breath would ever pass through their lips, no light to ever be seen in their eyes. All were dead.

And so the young girl, awoken by the fall of blood drops, lay soaked in the blood of complete strangers, on the cold floor of a dark room.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

As the luminescent rays reached her hair and face, she knew that was no longer in that dark room, that prison.

Amber eye slowly opened. And beautiful were those eyes. Pale brown and bright like gold, they were ethereal by all means.

She surveyed the room in which she lay. It was as light as her old prison was dark.

The room was strange. Her eyes would always encounter the same color; a blinding white. A feeling slowly began to mount to her conscience; panic. And terror did it wreak in her mind as repressed fears of death came back to life.

Heavy lids fell upon amber eyes as a breath, slow and shaky, passed through her lips. With death would come relief of all pain, suffering and betrayal. And so she found a drop of hope in a sea of dread.

The sound of footsteps awoke her from her turbulent day-dream. The steps were steadily coming closer. She waited her breath hitched.

In but a few seconds she found herself face to face with three people. And strange were these people. The first wore a mask of an animal to hide his identity. But her attention did not fall on him but on his companion. Strange eyes stared back at her. To the average person, they held no foreign look. But she knew…those eyes held wisdom beyond her years, in both knowledge and experience.

She quickly turned away, her heartbeat accelerated just as panic mounted. She had learned to never trust humans; they were all traitors and would lead her to her downfall.

"Your appearance in Konoha was quite unexpected…no one knows anything about you. Quiet strange."

His voice demanded respect. And yet she would not dare give it to him, lest become another pawn.

"What is your name?"

Your identity is your most precious possession

That was her most important rule. And yet here fate found her, a young girl found bathing in blood, mutilated bodies guarding her. No one knew her; she had no identity.

No identity…

"I-I don't know… I can't remember."

And when no identity was present, create your own.

'kay well that's it
