Log I: [March 2045]
We begin this record in the hope that our legacy will continue past these dark times. The world is changing and we must as well, or be lost in chaos.
The advent of 'super powers', or 'quirks' as they are more commonly called, has upset the delicate balance this world once had.
Scholars from across the planet predict a collapse of society, and we must not lose ourselves and forget our many mistakes.
So we will make our stand here, collect and store what we can, and safeguard our past which was made through our blood, sweat and sacrifices.
We will stand separate from society as reminders of what we once stood for, and what we could still yet be.
This is our mandate, as the keepers of Humanity and its history.
What a lovely spring day...
I allow my thoughts to drift, something I don't get to do nearly as much as I wish, and ponder the world around me. I can hear the slight rustle of trees in the light breeze, the gentle murmur of the other shop goers around me with the faint sounds of traffic creating a natural symphony all there own. I can feel the heat of my tea as it sits in my hand and a radiant but soft warmth coming from the springtime sun above.
At some point my mind wanders to how it all started when my quirk manifested and all that's happened since. It happened when I was about five, memories are little spotty thinking that far back, and I was watching some old movies, which were before quirks were even a thing, and mom was cooking lunch in the kitchen. Everything was arranged so that she always had me in sight, and dad's job gave him access to a lot of old stuff. I believe I watching a movie called 'Lord of the Rings', why my mother let me watch it I still don't know as it seemed a bit too dark for a five year old, and the main group of heroes walked into a large castle hall. At the end of the hall sat the king, he looked in pretty bad shape, and some real shady looking dude, had black hair and sunken eyes really white pupils, and the shady dude kept saying things to the king in his ear before going to confront the heroes. I remember they had a bit of a brawl and the hero in the grey cloak walked forward and tried to help the king out, but the king just laughed and said "You have no power here, Gandalf..." With such a weird tone that I found so utterly amusing I could help but repeat it.
"You have no power here" I said, feeling at that moment like some kind of switch had just been flicked.
In that moment a couple of things happened; I remember hearing from behind me a couple large clanging sounds as well as my mom shout out in surprise, I also remember feeling my brain go all funky like when I used to suck on ice cubes for too long. There was also the vague feeling that my upper lip was wet and a bit warmer than it should have been.
Confused about all those feelings, I paused my movie and moved towards the comfort of mom. I recall that she was looking a bit confused and kept looking between the kitchen pans and her own hands, then looking towards me as I sought comfort.
She quickly rushed over to me, kneeled down and said in a panicky tone "Xander, sweetie are you OK?"
I shook my head and told here that my head felt funny. She immediately grabbed a cloth from the counter and started wiping my face, only for me to realize then that my nose was bleeding.
A gentle shove from a nearby patron moving around the shop brought me out of my reverie long enough to take a nice sip of my tea.
After that my mom immediately took me to the doctor to try and figure out what just happened. I remember that after a few minutes of transit towards doc, my head suddenly got better and I quickly told mom. It seemed to calm her down slightly but she still took me to get help.
When we got there, mom and the doc had a short discussion about what happened and the nurses ran some tests on me. I then told the doc my side of the story and how my brain felt weird and about the strange sensation of flicking a switch in my head. The doc left us for a while and came back saying I had manifested my quirk, but they weren't sure what it was. My mom then theorized that I had somehow deactivated her telekinesis quirk, which she was using to do a bunch of things at once while making lunch, and the backlash had given me the bloody nose and brain freeze.
A couple more small incidents with both of my parents and further discussions, and a few more tests, with the doc lead us to a diagnosis of my quirk and it's extent.
They call it 'Words of Power' and little did I know just how much it would change my life.
