Even though this is my first story ever, I've read enough fanfics to know what the 100 themes challenge is. Also, Nigel came back 2 weeks after he left for the Galactic Kids Next Door because time works differently in space. Sooo… on with the story!
#35. Hold My Hand
"Okay," Nigel whispered to me after he had rung the doorbell. "They'll be out any minute now. Hold my hand."
"Wha!" I nearly toppled over into some nearby bushes when he said that. Luckily, I was quick on my feet. "Why?!" I whispered back. "And why are we whispering?"
"Because…" the Sector Leader drawled out. "If my folks don't think I have a girlfriend, they'll set me up with some random chick off the street! Help me out!"
"But you're 12! And so am I! Kids our age shouldn't be dating!" I said, pushing a lock of blonde hair away from my face.
"I was with Lizzie when I was 10!" He rubbed his bald head. "And I kinda miss her…"
I shot him an angry look, or at least what I hoped was angry. "Why me then? You told me we were going up to the Treehouse to look at mission specs!"
"We are." He whistled innocently. "…At least after we see my parents. They're concerned that I spend most of my time in the Treehouse and want me to take the route from the inside of the house up so they'll see me more often."
I face palmed. What I wouldn't do to be signing paperwork on Moonbase right now….
"Hold. My hand." He asserted firmly. When he got no response, he sighed. "Rachel, please. Do it for a friend? If not, do it as a favor from one leader to another, just please HELP ME!"
I cringed. He looked so desperate, plus a small part of me actually wanted to hold his hand. But I'd never let him know that. Yet. "Fine. "
"THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!" he whisper-yelled. "I'll make it up to you later! I promise!"
He grasped my palm and I couldn't help but notice how warm it was. But I was a tinge disappointed. It was all a façade. It meant nothing. But still, it felt good to be holding the hand of my secret cru-
"Nigel dear!" The woman who opened the door said. Nigel's mom. "Did you forget your keys again?"
"Yes mom. Sorry mom."
"No need to be sorry dear. Don't forget them next time." She looked at me and smiled warmly. "Oh! Is this your girlfriend?"
…I'm actually not sure if that sucked or not. Tell me when you review! Or else I will sic Numbuh 362 on you after she's knocked out by a door. Or not. Review!
