Disclaimer: I own nothing but myself. And my clothes. And a bunch of other stuff. But anyway, I would be amazingly happy if I did own this! And I'm not amazingly happy, just averagely happy. So, yeah. Don't sue me!

My second ever fanfiction: don't murder me!

A blur. That was all that he could describe it as. Simply fast, faster than a merry-go-round contraption. As Farid had fallen, all Dustfinger felt was anger.

His sorrows overwhelmed the former.

In the back of the dank cave, Dustfinger looked down at his apprentice's stilled body. He had been so full of life. So curious. The duo had been alike in the fact that they both came from another place.

Dustfinger felt a bitter bile rising in his throat. He'd never been one to experience much emotion. He'd never allowed himself. He let himself fill with it now.

Was there a way? A way to bring Farid back to life? After all, he'd been so young, with many years ahead of him.

So what?

So, Dustfinger thought, swiftly wiping his tattered coat sleeve over his eyes, so, there must be a way.

It occurred to him in a flash, like a rock striking the back of his blonde head. All of those tales, about the White Women…perhaps…perhaps they were not just tales…perhaps they are true.

All he would have to do is, well, die.

Not much to it, he supposed. He would just call them up, they'd fetch him, bring him to some far-away place, and Farid would live again.

No, no, he could never do that. He could never leave Roxanne, or Mortimer, or even Meggie. Too much grief. Then he realized how selfish that was. He was just afraid of death.

Wasn't Farid in love with Meggie, anyway?

In bringing two people apart, Dustfinger mused, tapping his chin thoughtfully, I would bring two people together.

So what?

"So," Dustfinger began aloud, "it would be a good deed, in a strange sort of way."

But why do I care about Farid, anyway? He was an annoying good-for-nothing.

Dustfinger nodded slowly and started to leave. Then the thought that helped him make the hardest decision he'd ever made in his life came to him.

So what?
