AN: This is based on a plot bunny suggested by Ogremen with a few tweaks from myself.

It began with but a single act. A point in time where a single change was to cause untold ripples through the timelines of more than one alternative reality.

The normal flow of time when observed from an external observer ran in fairly predictable lines. Alternative timelines happened all the time, where a single act of possibility can create a new universe in itself. For most choices, it was of little consequence. A left turn or a right. Up or down. Yes or no. The two realities might split, only to collapse back together into the stronger one with nary a blink.

And then there are those worlds where the possibilities change the two streams so drastically that they form new timelines and worlds in themselves. An asteroid missing instead of hitting a planet, a would-be leader dying, a child adopted by someone else or a competition won. Events that play out by pure chance than any rational plan.

Or in this particular case a bored young man with short brown hair and black eyes, wearing a brown jacket and muddy blue trousers sitting in a chair.

The chair itself was an illusion, much like the rest of the room. If you asked one hundred people to describe it, you would have one hundred contradictory answers, from a throne of gold to a tatty armchair. Like the rest of the room, it was little more than a means of allowing the reader to comprehend it.

Leaning forward, the bored young man tapped what appeared to be a moving stream of film and put his finger on it. The film stopped and he grinned. It had been some time since he had done this. With a tap of his finger, the stream broke into many different paths and the young man laughed. It would be amusing watching this play out.

AN: Yes, I know this was short. Consider it a warm up/prologue for the main event. And yes, we will see Harry Potter and co soon enough.
